    I remember reading in Tao of Physics that a Hindu text (I really don't remember if it was Vedas, Upnishads, etc) says that an object contains an identical object, which contains an identical object.

    Was Lord Vishnu, who is portrayed as floating on a blue cloud in a dark universe saying this? That Lord Vishnu is in everything, and as you divide further you still see Lord Vishnu?

    Please clarify this. I need to know this for speech I will make soon!

    @ChennaiExpress, I cannot recall Tao of Physics but can look up a little later to see what you are talking about. Mean while, is this what you are looking for?

    Om Puurnnam-Adah Puurnnam-Idam Puurnnaat-Purnnam-Udacyate
    Puurnnashya Puurnnam-Aadaaya Puurnnam-Eva-Avashissyate ||
    Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||

    Meaning:
    1: Om, That is Full, This also is Full, From Fullness comes that Fullness,
    2: Taking Fullness from Fullness, Fullness Indeed Remains.
    3: Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

    Srama is correct. 'om purnamadah' is the sloka which the passage in 'Tao of physics' references.

    I believe it is from Isha upanishad. Here is a link that talks more - I do follow this website for a lot of yoga sutra studies. Purna - from Isha Upanishad

    Not sure if this would help..

    Bhagavatam has a full description of how lord Vishnu made and contains the world... how everything begins with him and ends in him..

    It also describes the different lokas... timelines of different lokas... etc
