Default How do i plan my house warming?

i am planning a house warming for our new house...its' been 2 months since we've been staying here but we were wary of rains and hence thought we'll do a housewarming once the rains are over

now we have decided it to be 9th aug....the guest list has crossed 120 already and it's just a 2 bhk flat...although very spacious....

we have booked the society hall (can comfortably seat 70 people) too but i am worried if there are rains what would i do

what should i keep as the menu...should be a proper meal or just snacks....whatever it be...what would be the best menu ?

should I invite the people from the colony?...we're new and we hardly know the people in the colony...it isn't oo big a colony...3 building of 4 floors each and few bunglows...but if i invite everyone...the list will be huge and managing will be an issue..but i really want to know the people..and this would a best chance

how many people do i expect will turn up out of 120....i'd say almost 40 % are ones we're in regular touch with...and the rest we hardly get to meet in months

do i need any special preparations?...

pls share some tips...i'll be gr8ful

Hi, u have to do lot of preparation, i feel 120 member is much, why dont u do very small function, as u r recently shifted to pune i think all ur relatives frm outside how will u manage there staying,( its my personal feeling). if so no need to call colony and building people, do your vastu pooja in the morning and keep dinner in the evening giving attention to everyone will be difficult,so u have to e somebodys help, book the pujari before and planthe menu visit some of the katers it depends on ur budget.

Hi, regarding colony people getting knowing them as ur working doest get much time , u can call them anyother time like haldi kunku, my personal feeling is that getting knowing them doest make any diiference, just give some time during society meeting, i feel u hve maintain distance bcoz cant judge anyone so fast.ya smile whenever u meet its the best policy to maintain relation

even punjabi dishes can work for menu, u hav to concentrate on rice items, pollivagre, pulav, bisebele baat, pongal.wear saari during only pooja ,if u r not comfortable during day bcoz cant walk fast with saari.

Hi Reena,

There a couple of south indian caterers here who do a wonderful job. My neighbours are south indian and they had engaged this caterer for the sons marriage as well as another function. They serve on plantain leaves.

Whether to have snacks or proper meal will depend on your budget.

We had about 275 people for our house warming. And about a hundred of them had come from out of Pune. Out of that a few had stayed with us over night so i had to arrange for everyone's stay as well.

You can have the Puja/havan in the morning and if it early then invite everyone for lunch. If you wnat to invite them for snacks the keep the timing as 4-6 PM. If the Puja is late then invite people for dinner. 7-9 is a good time.

As mentioned above south indian food is a good option or else a mix of punjabi and fast food.

It can be assorted dosas, chola batura, biryani and raita and gulab jamun with vanilla ice cream.

A welcome drink is a must. I think this should fit in 125/- to 150/- per plate.

If you keep snacks then cutlets would be a good option as south indians enjoy cutlets.

idli wada sambhar with rawa kesri is also a good option or assorted dosas. which would also act as a mini meal.

Roopa.

thanks so much roopa for those tips..really useful

i am amazed how u handled so many guests....that too when people were to stay there too

we did a samll puja ...that i guess tamilians do when they move in...a small one when u are supposed to boil milk and let it fall from the vessel

my husband and i are not keen on any puja during the house warming...and are looking for timing that would suit the people coming over the best

i'll ask u more when we meet next weekend :)
