Default Dear Chitra

How are you? Nowadays, I am not writing, but every day checking your site. I think slokam is even better than recipes. My family says recipe site is better. Anyway, good for me. Can you post slokams for appealing face, when people see us they must like us. Not vasheekaranam, but friendly liking.

love
Jana

Default Long time, no hear, Jana ?

I do miss you in the cookery forum, can't help saying it !
The two best mantrams for what you have asked for are, Maha Ganapathy Mantram & Swayamvara Parvathi Mantram. But both of them need to be initiated by a guru.
So the best, you can chant without upadesham is " Gam ganapathaye namah".
Keep in touch.
Love & regards,
Chithra.

Default Dear Mrs C,

I have printed and laminated all your specific slokams so far, some so rare that it is a blessing to have you circulating them. I have another request. When I get to read local magazines in India, I note down the short slokams especially from Mangayar Malar, Aanmikam or Bhakti in Malayalam. If you have such a collection, can you post some from that? I remember that in Mangayar Malar, there used to be a young Panditar (Kannan Swamigal or Kannan Dikshitar) who used to post short slokams on Kali, Santana Lakshmi ,just anything sacred.

Looking forward to your response.
affectionately

Default I am here, Chitra!

Dear Chitra,
Thanks for those kind words. I am here and did see the words. In fact I should be the one who should be proud and happy because your great work is compared to mine.
And Vidya, thanks for the nice words. Somehow the nails always creep in. ha ha.
I am sorry, I am not supposed to joke in this thread.
Let me share a thought with you. Regarding Prathyankara Devi I heard from somebody that you are not supposed to chant those slokas unless you want to harm your enemies. As the Hindu tradition does not accept harming even the enemies and advocates total Ahimsa, Prathyankara Worship is normally kept out of bounds for us.
Chitra, it's just an hearsay. But the reason was appealing. I want your views on that.
regards,
sridhar

Default sacred thread

Varalotti,

Abt Pratyangira Devi, I have also heard these opinions. And would like to hear Mrs C's informed views on this.

This is not a serious thread, it is sacred. Some of us friends (who met thru IL) treat it with the same sanctity as a pooja room.

Hari Om! to you Varalotti- visit us here more often.

Default Welcome to this forum, Sridhar !

Dear Sridhar,
To think that Vidya had to introduce B & B, to draw you here ! Anyway welcome to our "holy forum " !
Regarding Prathyangira manthram - I am just sharing what little, I learnt from my Guru.
Simple prathyangira manthram ( taken from Atharvana vedam) can be chanted by anybody. Only when it is chanted with beeja mantrams with upadesham, it should be chanted with care.
When one chants it for one's own welfare, we pray for the " destruction of internal enemies like inflated ego, arrogance, hurt, selfishness, pride, guilt etc... the list is endless ! - that is what shatru nashanam is all about !
We always chant with an intention which will not harm others, but to clear of all these.
My guru always says that " shathru nashanam" refers to only internal shathrus in our mind ! We are not so powerful that our enemies can be banished by our chanting ! That attitude should not be there, as well.
In fact the same is said about Sudarshana manthram also.
On hearing from you only, I plan to post Prathyangira manthram, now, Sridhar !
Please do visit us often, Sridhar, you are welcome.
Love & regards,
Chithra.
