    Hello friends..

Hello, I am now 10 weeks pregnant and when i was 6 week pregnant, doc have diagonised i am having herpes zoster (at upper stomach) attack. but it may be mentioned, i dont have severe pain but bearable pain, no headache. I am worried if there is any risk for fetus for abnormalities. My scan at 7 th week was normal with heart beat of 144. now i am nearing 11th week n the rashes have come down wen i was in 8th week. doc advised to apply calosoft lotion n vitamin c tablets only n no antiviral was given to me. my parents are not sure that i had chicken pox during my childhood, but they have vaccined me for chicken pox. should i take some measures to avoid the virus to reach my baby????

    Hi Preethirathina,

    Congratulations on your pregnancy dear.
I am not too sure about your problem. But have you spoken to a doctor about it? If you were not satisfied with the answers given to you, go for a second opinion.

My friend had a similar problem. But she was under medication even before she was pregnant. And basically she was told the infection would NOT reach the baby. But its important that your doctors (OB/GYN) know about it so that they can take necessary measures during delivery.

Just consult a specialist again and get to know about it in detail.
All the best for a lovely gestation and loads of baby dust to you. :)

    Hi Tanoshii..

Thanks for ur prompt reply, my first doc told me to decide whether to continue or not, then told wait for one more month. Then i went to another gyno, she reffered me to a skin specialist n he confirmed the herpes zoster viral infection n told it is just reactivation of virus due to low immunity now n stress which is already there in me if i had got chicken pox during my chilhood days. But my parents told i have not got chicken pox in my childhood days n i was vaccinated for the same. Since, the symptom n its effect was very low on me like i didnt have fever n no unbearable pain, my gyno told me to wait till the rashes go. once it got cured she told 99% nothing will happen to baby n this 1 % u have to take the risk because it was during my early pregnancy i.e.6th week to 8 th week. So i am keeping my fingers crossed n praying god for the little one to be safe.

Came to this forum to check if any one has this experience of herpes in early pregnancy and its effect.

Anyways thanks for ur quick positive response :)

That sounds good dear. If the doctor has said 99% there might not be any problem, there should not be any. And yes, if you have had your vaccination for chicken pox, you are safe.
Hope all turns out good and praying for you too and for the safety of your baby.
Take care and loads of baby dust to you. :)
