Hi everyone - I am new here so apologies upfront if this question has been asked before... I need to know when the 5th month begins? I'll be 18 weeks from LMP when I visit India for 10 days next week. My mother wants to perform srimantham ceremony but apparently that can be done only during or after the 5th month. According to "what to expect when you are expecting" 5th month is approximately between 18-22 weeks but I've seen conflicting information elsewhere. Some say 17 weeks, others say 20 weeks etc. Does anyone know for sure or should I just trust in God, assume I'm in the 5th month and have the ceremony done? Thanks in advance for any replies, jayak

Hi all, Thanks for the responses. It's much appreciated!! ...and wish you all a happy and healthy pregnancy.
hi Jaya, 1st trimester - 1-3 months 2nd trimester - 4-6 months 3rd trimester - 7-9 months Your first trimester or month counting starts from your LMP first day to every week.
Hi Just some information that I heard recently - While our doctors, books give the weeks/month as per medical terms, growth etc., our functions (valaikappu, seemanthan etc.) are based on the Tamil months. I am in my 17th week currently, but as per Tamil, I am in the 5th month. So for performing functions, your mom will take the Tamil month when you last had ur periods and that will be counted as Month 1. Then, see if u complete 5 tamil months. regards Ramya
Jaya, As Ramya said your mom will calculate as per Tamil month(even my mom did the same), go with what your mom says. Congrats & Enjoy your Seemantham. Dhivya
