Why would the position of the moon have anything to do with your pregnancy?

Some of which I know are:

Do not go outside, no cutting veggies, no eating/drinking during the eclipse. No looking at the eclipse.

Do parayan of vishnu sahasranama or any other sloka that you prefer.

Place darbai (I dont know the telegu name), its the grass that men tie to their fingers for purification in drinking water.

    Hi,

As far as I know only solar eclipse has an impact. It stales the food due to the rise in temperature during the eclipse. So it was told not to eat or drink anything other than water during the eclipse.

It was suggested to use 'Til' or 'tharpai' in the food to preserve it. Now in modern days, we keep everything in fridge.. so not to worry. But we keep the blinds etc.. down to avoid the heat . And also after the eclipse .. head bath is taken..precisely for the same reason..to dissipate the heat.

For lunar eclipse, I haven't heard any rituals per se.

There were scientific reasons behind lot of the customs and rituals that were followed. To make everyone follow them, it was always told instilling a fear..in people's minds.

Not to say.. many of these customs/rituals were misused to suppress women too..

    It was sarcasm :)

A books that I read on aborigines in Australia says menstrual cycle is closely connected to the moon cycle. When people lived outdoors, all the women would get their period the same time on the New moon day. Indian beliefs also stem from the same source I guess.

I do not know if this is scientifically proved by scientifically proved or not. But I try to follow all traditions if its not too tedious.
