To my knowledge baby will not have any pain because of mothers back pain.

But mother should not strain much when she is ill or having back ache.
A complete bed rest will help and avoid complications.

    thanks
    uma

That is right, the mother's pain is not going to affect the baby inside the womb. But, the medications taken for pain can go into the baby's blood and can cause damage to the baby. Hence, medications for anything like mother's pain should be taken, only under the strict supervision and prescription of a qualified medical practitioner.

Im sorry to hear that the cervix of your wife was stitched. I can imagine she is stressed and its causing back pain to lay down all the time, but in her case it is really very much required.

Any sort of pain the mother is having is not affecting the baby in the meaning of the baby will feel pain as the nerves of mother and child are not connected.
If the mother has abdominal cramps the baby can feel the contractions and might feel uncomfortable. Like it will feel the labor too but NOT like the mother does (just the movements of muscles / cramps etc. wont share her pain but will be stress for baby too as delivery is hard word for both sides).

Having said that you dont need to worry at all your baby will be feeling any sort of pain. Imagine like this: even you touch the back or tummy of your wife you wont feel her pain, BUT your feel the stress she is going through due to it.

I mean to say the baby can feel her stress. So what is important is that she is listening to what the doctors said precicely and tries to avoid stress as much as possible. She can watch comedy movies or any other movies or books which makes her laugh and raise her mood. You can try to give her back massages or place heating pads on her back to reduce the pain. Check which position she is laying, maybe change of position can help a bit. Some pregnant women use breastfeeding pillow, it supports the growing tummy, and if you place between knees and under head it keeps u in place and comforts. the position with the knees not being crossed or close together is in some cases soothing for the women. Please talk to her doctor about such things due to her cervix problem, he will know best how to reliefe her a bit.
