Hi, I am currently 21 weeks pregnant. Am having severe headaches everyday for past 2-3 weeks. Sometimes its just one side pounding headache or sometimes the whole head aches. Tried a lot of things like sleeping, steam inhale, hot/cold compress etc. Any other suggestions. Also i have a blocked nose almost all days. Have my reglar checkup this week. Planning to talk to doc reg this. Thanks, Anitha
Dear Anitha As you have written , do talk to your doctor about this , when you are going for the next check up.. and without guidence from doctor, dont take any medicine, keep ice pack on forehead if u get headache, and for blocked nose inhaling is a good thing to do, put some amount of salt in to the water , and inhale it. take good rest, and drink good amount of water, take care resmij
I am facing the same problem as well. I am 27 weeks now, and having a headache literally everyday when i wake up, for the past week. Applying some eucalyptus type oil on my forehead helps, but not completely. My next doc visit is in 3 days - I'll ask her about it then and post back.
Regarding blocked noses, there is a condition called rhinitis of pregnancy. It's caused by the hormone change. Of concern though is headaches: it can be an indication of high blood pressure which can be part of more serious conditions. Please go to the doctor sooner instead of putting off.
Dear Ani, If you do not have sinus related problem or cannot think of any other reason for the headaches. It could be due to your eating habits with long gaps leading to acidity or insufficient water intake tending to dehydration. The acidity and the heart burn is actually nature's way of reminding the mother to eat on a regular basis to take care of her additional nutritional requirements in pregnancy for herself and the growing fetus. Some basic thumb rules • The earlier the breakfast the better it is. A breakfast as early as 8:30 to 9 is already late. • A meal every two hourly is advisable. • Lunch by 1 pm. • It is very natural to feel hungry around the evening time hence a heavy snack or a meal is a good idea at this time. If you take care of these fundamental things you will find a balance and your acidity will be curbed which will prevent you to get in to mindless eating to provide comfort from its affects. The two hourly meals can be a variety of things in small quantities • High fibre biscuits • Nuts and Dry fruits, a handful • A cup of milk • Sundal (white or black) • Butter milk • A fruit or a few pieces of them. • Salad Some basic things • Eat what you can digest. • Eat on time. • Don’t skip or delay the big meals or replace them with fruits will increase acidity. • Don’t stay on an empty stomach for more than two hours have a small bite of anything. • Drink water on a regular basis throughout the day. • Avoid junk and fatty food, these kind of food gets difficult to digest. • Get a good walk, helps digestion. • Stay happy and cheerful good for the stomach and digestion too. Take care…. Rakhi
Hi All, Thanks for the replies. I had checked with my doc and she said it was because of sinus and gave me a course of tabs for 3 days after which am feeling far better. She also asked me to avoid cold inducing foods such as tender coconut, fruits etc for a few days. She asked me to have high protein rich food from now on.
