First Trimester ultrasound scan anomaly

hello,

I am 28 yrs old and I am 13 weeks pregnant now and i took ultrasound scan last week (when i was 12 weeks) as per doctor's advice. The scan result said my baby heart is not formed well (they are not able to see one ventricle - 2 should be there actually) and they recommended another scan after 2 weeks. I showed the scan report to doctor. The doctor says we can take one more scan after 3-4 weeks (i,e when i'll be 16 weeks pregnant) and see the heart development. Doctor says I need to abort if heart is not developed even then

I was very happy when i got pregnant and this new stresses me a lot.

1. Has anyone done ultrasound in 12th week? will ultrasound scan done at that time give accurate result?

2. will the heart develop completely in 12 weeks? or will it take another 2-3 weeks?

3. has anyone gone thru similar thing in pregnancy? can you pls share your experience?

4. I also read such ultrasound scanning has to be done by well trained people. Can you recommend a good scan center with well trained specialist in chennai?

Sorry about the confusions... I don't have much idea about the other queries.. You can try Mediscan, they are good with scan as far as i have heard.

Hi Ramya,

I had my 12 weeks scan when I was 14 weeks, the baby was not developed properly in the head. Doctors blamed it on folic acid, but I was taking good amount of it before itself.
Not sure why it happened.
I took second opinion, the second doctor said the same thing without knowing what the first doctor had said. I took their opinion seriously and aborted my baby.
I feel it was the right decision as in that condition baby would not have survived after birth.

Take second opinion, if needed 3rd opinion, don't tell them what first doctor said and get independent views. Then do what you decide best. And don't regret the decision.
