| | travelling overseas with baby
Hi,
When can we travel with the baby for a long trip. I wanted to go to india after baby is born and would like to know when it is safe for the baby to endure such a long flight journey, change of climate etc.
What precautions to be taken?
Any suggestions, ideas and tips are welcome.
I want to go only when it is safer and worried abt if it is ok for the baby's health.

Hi Priya,
I live in Doha, and after my second delivery I travelled to India on the 7th day of delivery (it was in September 2008. I was very much afraid but I had no other option since my mother could not come over here this time.I had so many doubts regarding pressure variation, avilability of oxygen in the flight etc.. etc..... We checked with 3-4 paediatricians, all of them were saying that there is no particular risk in travelling with the newborn, ane I checked in the internet also, there was no evidence of any mishaps. And I know many of my friends who travelled with their new borns. The only thing to take care of is that, ensure that they are sucking while the flight takes off and lands to avoid pain in their ears.
By the way it was only 4.5 hrs of flight for us, but i think in ur case it is more.. so take precutions accordingly. We had no troubles at all.
Have a safe journey..
Triza.

Thankyou Triza.
After reaching india how did u manage? any precautions?
Like mosquito bites, weather change?
when i travelled with my toddler he got severe rashes due to mosqitoes, but he was old enough to take medications etc.
but little worried abt baby. also did u travel out? like to different towns? (in train?)
I hope i can breastfeed, so atleast we dont have to worry abt water for formula etc.

| | Re: travelling overseas with baby It depends on your health condition too after delivery. Many say that it is ok to travel by 2-4 weeks of delivery.
One of our friend travelled by 1and 1/2 month as she was finding difficult to manage two kids. You can also check with the pediatrician about the travel, shots ,any medicine to be taken while you travel to india.Talk to your gynaec and once your post delivery checkup is over, you will know the condition.
I travelled when my first one was 3 and a half months old and now i am planning to travel by 2 months after my second delivery.
Would you be going on the Winter or on the Summer? The only thing in the flight journey is while take off and landing just have them breastfed so that they will be sucking .
Also it is easier to travel when the kids are younger, becoz most of the time they will spend time sleeping and you don't have to worry much about their food too.. |

| | Re: travelling overseas with baby Yes ,For my daughter her pediatrician prescribed her (when she was 3 and a half months) and asked to cut the tablet into certain proportion(1/8th or something,I don't remember now) ,powder and mix it with food .
But I never got a chance to use it becoz i was travelling back and forth from chennai, madurai. Also the doctors over there, didn't give much importance to that,I was afraid of diarrea with that medicine,so didn't give her that.
My inlaws are in chennai, but my parents are in madurai.I am planning for atleast 6 months, becoz now itself i am finding difficult to manage her.
Carrier for the infant,Stroller for the toddler will work.
