Hi
I am 36 week pregnant. expecting my first baby this month. I am staying here with my hubby. Can we manage it on our own after my delivery or should I look for some help. My hubby will get paternity leave. wat r the necessary things we should keep in mind to take post delivery care of me & my baby like eating habits & rest etc.

Hi,

You are in India and definitely you can take the help of your mother and your inlaws. It is not easy to take care of both you and your baby by your husband. You should definitely take help. You can arrange for a maid also.

Hi Rajmi
Thanx for reply. My mother is no more in this world & my MIL doesn't want to come here. I also don't want to go to my inlaws place as I think they won't take care of me & my baby (specially baby girl) in my hubby's absence. Though i am trying to arrange for a full time maid & my sister(married, with children) will also try to come for my help, but I am not sure about both these things. That's why I am so worried. Pls suggest smthng.

Bye
Soha

Hi Soha,

Sorry to hear that. I will give you one another solution which one of my relatives followed, see whether it could be done. By the way how do you know that you are carrying a baby girl?

If you have enough space in your house atleast one another room you can ask for a old relative not so old and not so young one who is agile and who could help but who has none to take care of or atleast that person should be helpful enough. She could stay with you. If it is a couple much more merrier and better. Search amongst your relatives who are willing to help you. One of my relatives did this. She got the help from those nice people till the baby was able to sit. Infact they became so attached to the family.

Hi
Thanx Sunkan That's really a helpful link, i am just going thru that. Thanx Rajmi for ur suggestion. Well I am not 100% sure whether mine is a baby girl or boy, but most of the people around me guess that it would be a baby girl & my astrological charts also says this. I will definitely announce my baby's birth on indusladies.

Dear Soha,

Dont get carried away by what people say or by what your astro charts say. Infact I was predicted having a boy during my first pregnancy but I delivered a girl. Keep your fingers crossed. Yes announce your baby's birth.

Dear Soha,

Congrats to you on your pregnancy!

though you have got wonderful ideas from experienced ladies, you can also try posting your requirement of maid in different websites like sulekha, indialist, kijiji etc, i hope you would be able to get some good domestic help through this. but don't forget to check references.

You can also check with your doctor/nurse as they can also suggest some trained "aya" for baby..that's what my sister did.

I'm also expecting and due in october..

Dear Soha

I know of couples here in the U.S. who have handled the pregnancy and delivery single-handedly. One couple had their second child a year back(the first child was 4 then) and they had no one for help.Fortunately, the husband was a good cook and he took care of the household duties while the wife took care of herself and the baby.Another couple had their second child this year(the first one was again 4 yrs old) and here her friends helped with food after delivery. So,it is possible if there is no other option:smile:

Luckily, you are in India...so even if relatives are not able to help, there surely will be friends around. You will need a lot of rest after delivery and you will be able to take care of yourself and the baby only.Don't worry...everything will be fine.

dear friend,
take as much as help & assistance u can get during this critical time.personally i think MIL is better option then trying any stranger like aya.do not worry in inital mths a baby sleeps much of time ,so u can even manage alone after the initial 40 days.the trick is to rest when baby is sleeping .also try to spend time alone away from baby ,like go for walk or read etc.
when there is small baby in house many people give u suggestions.listen to all but follow only what u feel is right.remember a mother always knows what is best for her baby.for any other information i find Dr Sears websight wonderful.best of luck.
