The room was small, with a bad smell,
With an age old lamp giving poor light.
A good looking man was shoved and fell,
In the wee hours without a fight.

He was a big trouble monger,
    Said the british government.
    He fought against them stronger
Using his speech as his armament.

    People followed him at will,
    To wherever he was going,
    Shouted slogans with a will,
    Never stopping or slowing.

    The police arrested them all,
But confined him alone to a solitary,
Dumping others in a dirty hall,
Which was worse than a dormitory.

They tried to break him, but in vain,
For he had an indomitable will.
Their kicks gave him so much pain,
And, soon he was very still.

The grave news of his sad demise,
Brought tears from his men's eyes,
Who all stood as one to fight,
The evil with all their might.

This just describes the life of one,
Just one of the so many eminent men,
Who left everything else they pursued,
For nation's freedom, their prime issue.

Lets remember them. Not just for one day, though we may not have realized what they got us!

    Hello Srinivasan
Real good poem on these freedom fighters who fought for our country.
Who got us all freedom, A lovely tribute to these men.
Who fought selfless so that in future his fellow men can breath in peace.

    Dear RGS,

Thanks to Aruna's nomination of this poem to the FP of the month, I raced to read your touching verses on a freedom fighter's selfless protest against a foreign occupation of his Mother Earth.

Your words were touching and it sure is an ode to many unsung heroes of our land.

Thanks for the same and congratulation on your nomination.

    L, Kamla
