Vaccination of Pets The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) which is the only organization that accredits animal hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada via its canine vaccination guidelines that recommends revaccination with MLV CPV-2, CDV and CAV-2 at intervals of every 3 years or longer. So does World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA). Both state that duration of immunity with MLV CPV-2, CDV and CAV-2 vaccines is 7 years. Over-vaccination can make dogs and cats very sick. It can even make them die… What are the views of the forum members on this aspect? My pet, Royal German Spitz, male, 13 years seems to be suffering as a result of such over-vaccination resulting in acceleration of cataract/opacity of the eyes, immune-mediated polyarthritis of its hind legs, loss of muscle mass, urinary dribbling, and bowel incontinence. All this within three months of its last annual vaccination. It is still pulling along as an ultrasound and complete blood work shows no organ failure yet other than some calculi in the gallbladder partially blocking flow of bile into the intestines. Also, on our own volition on search on the internet we are giving it Bayer's animal supplement of glucosamine and chondritin with vitamin E in powder form, homeopathic eye drops Cineraria Maritima twice a day, and one tab each of Neurobion Forte and vitamin A. There is no facility here to give address of relevant websites as attachments and the same cannot be included in this text as per forum rules. So one may Google for AAHA & WSAVA |
