Default One dog rule..

Fed-up neighborhood passes one-dog rule
Fri Aug 29, 12:52 PM ET

LIMA (Reuters) - Dog lovers beware. A neighborhood in Peru's capital, Lima, has passed a law prohibiting families living in apartments from having more than one dog. People living in houses are allowed two dogs, while those found with more will be subject to hefty fines.

According to an order published in the country's official gazette on Thursday, residents of Jesus Maria, a middle-class area in Lima, have said there are just too many dogs -- and too much barking.
"Neighbors have complained they cannot live in peace, harmony, or good physical and mental health because ... noisy dogs disturb the peace," the order read.
Families with more than the permitted number of dogs will face fines of up to 700 soles ($237), and could have their furry friends removed.
But Maria Solano, 70, said she would never let that happen to her two dogs, Boni and Fiama, adopted off the street 5 years ago.
"My dogs are my children," said Solano, who lives in an apartment in Jesus Maria. "They aren't hurting anyone. I'd move to another neighborhood before giving them up."
The order says nothing about cats, or animals besides the dog.

Hi ! Srini,

That is surely a very tough rule but a good one, nevertheless I would add as I think it is not fair to the dogs if they do not get adequate place .Apartment dwellers should be realistic too don't you think?
Perhaps if they are very small breeds or like lapdogs like the pugs or Lhasa Apsos or Shitzhu's it would be Ok spacewise I guess .I have seen German Shepherds and Labs in apartments and it is a sorry state unless they have a strict regimen of being taken out at least for 2 hours per day I think it is not fair on them.
But dog lovers sometimes forget these things and like Maria Solano of Peru
will even move out and transplant elsewhere if her two pets are going to be hauled up! I know I would even relocate to Mars or any other planet that welcomes them, if I had to part with my R or J.!!
When adopting a pet , space constraints should be kept in mind no doubt
and noise pollution is another important aspect to watch out for in apartment complexes.

True, Paulina..
I second every word of you...pets also need space...
but here in some apts. they don't allow pets at all.
One of our friends, had to let go off their pet cat...because they had to move to a different apt.
of course, they made sure that the cat is in safe hands..

Yes, I had mentioned in one of my FB's that big dogs are totured in apartment houses. They need exercise and care too. These dogs are kept as pets to give company to old members of the family. There is no one to take them for play, they just stand on the balcony and amuse themselves. It is a status symbol than love for animals. Thats not fair!
