jk, this shd be in Travel, but here goes: which part of kashmir do you plan to visit? it'll be quite cold so prepare for it. take appropriate clothing so every part of the body (scarves, gloves, thick socks, thermals etc etc) stays warm. expect delays on the roads, keep snacks/food on hand.
If there's still time, the kid can be 'enrolled' in some kind of snowboarding or trekking youth group to save on some costs! because of the popularity and the unique exp. it offers, better to go with a travel agent on this one...
btw, why not prefer Rohtang that promises snow all year round?
