Nokia 2630 has dual frequency bands: GSM : 900/1800 MHz. It will not work in US. Try going for a triband or quadband phone.

Check whether the phone supports 850/1900 frequency band. This is used in US. The 800/1800 frequency band is used in India. You can find that in the phone specification in the manufacturer's website.

Essentially, most triband and all the quadband (800/850/1800/1900) phones work both in India and the US.

Default US SIM Cards

Hi,

Can we get SIM cards in US to use there ?

Many of them were saying that we can get SIM only with Phone. Is it true ?

What are all the GSM providers available there ?

Pls let me know the best one we can go for a month ?

Thanks in advance.

Lakshmi

You can buy only the SIM there. My husband used AT&T prepaid sim when he went on a business trip to US. Not cheap but his company reimbursed the amount.

One more option you can look at is Skype. Install skype on your laptop/workstation. You can buy skype credit online and call phones (cellphones, landlines). Works out much cheaper than buying a SIM. If the person you want to call has a PC, they can install skype on that PC. Get a mic & headset and you will get to make unlimited calls free of charge.

Yes mrl, you can. Google for prepaid SIM cards in USA for more information or you can ask your colleagues there to find a good plan for you.
