How much does it cost to employ a nanny?

Ladies, please help me with this question. I am expecting. I may have to go back to work next year. My mom and my mil can take turns in coming to take care of my baby. But it may be too difficult for them to take care of a baby single handedly for the entire day. So, i am thinking of hiring a nanny who will help with the baby and do some light house work (not even full cooking). Have any of you employed a nanny for this purpose? How much does it cost to employ a nanny? I am thinking of 9:00 to 4:00 every week day or so. I really appreciate your help with this question

Average cost would be somewhere $1000 and above just for babysitting. If you include simple household task then they charge somewhere from $1200-$1500. If you looking for licensed nanny just for baby sitting then they would charge you close to $2000.

Thanks for your response Uma. To clarify, is $1000 per month, for 5 days a week, 8 hours a day?

I pay my nanny 8.50 per hour, and she generally works around 40-45 hrs per week, which makes it somewhere between 1400 and 1600 per month. in addition to taking care of my son, she also helps in housework such as chopping veggies, making chappatis/parathas, loading/unloading dishwasher, kitchen cleanup, laundry, baby bottle washing/sterilizing, vacuuming and dusting.
