Let me get this thread started with a puzzle of mine! Yes, I created this puzzle and hence it is going to be very easy! Preethi and Priyum decided to take a road-trip on the south-eastern parts of Australia. Preethi kept a meticulous diary of their activities and it is given below. Their car had a capacity of 40 gallons. Activity-----------Odometer(miles)------Gas/Petrol Leave Home----------25768----------------Tank Full Reset the Odometer----25848 Fill gas---------------472------------------Half Full Reach Destination------748 Reset the Odometer----1064 Fill gas---------------236------------------1/4 Full Reach Home----------512------------------3/4 Full With this information, please tell me.. a. What is the distance to their destination? b. What is the gas mileage of their car? c. Did they take the same route to and fro? Malathy Last edited by Induslady; 11th December 2006 at 07:49 AM.

Hi Jaylakshmi/Gayathri, Your answers were right! For the benefit of others, can one of you explain how you solved the puzzle? Gayathri, there is no need to private message the poster of the puzzle. You can provide your answers in the thread itself. Priyum, Before I could respond to your doubt, Jaylakshmi and Gayathri have solved the puzzle. Sorry about that. Resetting the trip odometer was more for twisting the puzzle than a practical reality. Who is going to post the next puzzle? Malathy

Oh Malathy, I will run away somewhere if you give such puzzles, zi hate mathematics. My friend's grandpa was a school teacher and he used to ask us such puzzles. So if we sight him anywhere, we used to jump over the walls and escape from, this is not for joke but really we all did that. He is no more, poor soul.
