Hi All,

Now its my turn to give you some puzzles.

1. A women rides into the city on Sunday stays for four days and nights and leaves on Sunday. How Come ?

2. A Cowboy rides to the City on Sunday, stays two nights, and then rides home on Thursday. How does this happen? (and yes he definitely stays two nights!!)

Default Days and nights

Hi Preethi
These are the solutions to the puzzles given by u.
1. A women rides into the city on Sunday , stays for four days and nights and leaves on Sunday. How Come ?
Assume the journey to the city will take 36 hrs. So if she starts Sunday night, she'll reach by Tuesday morning, So from Tuesday to Friday-4 days and 4 nights. Then again she'll start on Saturday morning and she'll reach by Sunday.
Provided she should start early morning so that the day is not counted...

2. A Cowboy rides to the City on Sunday, stays two nights, and then rides home on Thursday. How does this happen? (and yes he definitely stays two nights!!)
Same logic. But here we can assume the journey to be 24 hrs. So he'll start on Sunday night then he'll reach the city by Monday night.
Monday, Tuesday-2 nights
Tuesday, Wednesday-2 mornings(days)
And he'll be back by Thursday night, by starting on Wednesday night.

Hop I am correct.
Plz let me know.
Hi indus ladies......
I didnt solve the previous puzzles bcoz I am late.
Morning I've seen the puzzle of that anagram and I am little busy with my work. When I came back with the answer, all've solved that and so many puzzles after that.
Keep it up...

Anyway, I'll check regularly.

Default Doubts Clearance

Priyum

Is this doubt for Puzzle 1 or 2 ?

Just one more hint...

Solution to Puzzle 1 lies not in calculating the dates or day of travelling , read the question again carefully . A bit of lateral thinking gives the solution.

In Puzzle 2, the lady does not go out of the city during the week.

Love,
Preethi

Default Easy Madam !

Gayatri,

Cheer up !

As i told Priyum, for riddle 1, u don't have to goto the extent of calculating her days of stay and return, her journey days etc...

Actually, the answer lies in the question itself...(BIG HINT!!!)

Just approach the question from a different dimension !

Again I emphasis, a bit of lateral thinking will easily solve the first puzzle....

Let me wait and watch, who gives me the correct answer !

Love,
Preethi

Default Let me try

Preethi,

My attempt for the first one.

The puzzle says that " A women rides into the city on Sunday , stays for four days and nights and leaves on Sunday."

Okay the 4 days and nights are not the same days and same nights( i.e 4 whole 24 hour days). It has to be 4 consecutive days( which includes the nights) and 4 consecutive nights( which includes the days) . So that makes it 8 whole 24 hour days , and so she will leave the city the following sunday.

Default Good approach Vandhana , but.....

Vandhana,

That was a different try actually, but sadly that's not the answer....

Ok girls, one more clue (am being so lenient in giving clues...)

"A women rides into the city on Sunday " - The answer precisely lies in this statement only ! (Apply lateral thinking now ! )

Now, let me see who answers !

I have almost blurted out the answer myself !!

Anyone after finding the answer, don't look for me to pounce ! ha ha ha...!!

Love,
Preethi

hi preethi,

In the question if we use "Sunday" in the context of sunny day then the answer is simple. can we use "Sunday" in that context.
