Durga Puja is around the corner. Its a time to rejoice, not only because Maa Durga is visiting us with her family, but also because it is the time when friends and families unite over the 4 days long festivities. Its time to make your fashion statement with the latest designs in apparels and have lots of fun.
I await Durga Puja each year as it is a time to meet and chat with friends as they come to visit their family during this period, even if they stay in different places.
How do you celebrate Durga Puja and do you also have a reason to await the festival as I do?
Hi mayuri!
I have been born and brought up in calcutta. Much later we all shifted to chennai and now I am settled in Bangalore. I miss everything about Kolkatta. I keep watching all bengali prog during Durga Puja. Planning to visit sometime during December as I have to attend my friend's daughter wedding. I am excited!!

Thanks for bringing Durga Puja right into Indusladies.
I really miss the puja days in Assam. We were kids hopping from one pandal to another. Durga Puja in Assam cannot to compared to Puja in Kolkata in numbers. However, I guess people who have seen them both in Assam and Kolkata will know that in Assam, even community Durga Puja's have an atmosphere of family reunion, which I personally feel in Kolkata is more superficial....
I really miss the 'Khisiri' on Mahashthami....
Hey, I'm narrating my rememberances of Durga Puja - a decade ago; Let me know if Durga puja is still the same there?
Hi
wherever I am I miss chandi pat on mahalaya day. I have tried buying CD and listening but it is not like how you hear in Kolkatta AIR at 4.30 in the morning

@manjulapathy, you can hear mahalaya on TV as well. I think Bengali channels broadcast them. My Bengali friends introduced me to bengali Mahalaya on radio and I really think, the songs are amazing. I also have got a CD presented by my friend.
I've never seen Durga puja in Kolkata, only heard about the larger than life stories. But, I love puja in Guwahati and feel, I can never feel tempted to miss out on the togetherness and reunions of friends.
Are there any Durga Puja celebrations in Bangalore?
Hi Mayuri!!!
I have thoroughly enjoyed Durga puja in calcutta. there are few places in bangalore where they have durga pandal and celebrations. It is done in typical way with bengali feast. In one of the bengali restaurent they serve special bengali dishes for Durga puja. Whatever said and done I miss calcutta Durga Puja and kali puja too. What fun we used to have when we were children!!

Oh! I too am awaiting the Navarathri celebrations.
I love to read about the Durga Puja Pandals and the festivities in Kolkata. Here in Bangalore, there are many pandals and we (my family and I) visit and pray to Kali Maa every year.
I am an ardent DurgaMaa follower and our group celebrates Navaratri in a big way. Here, we chant Lalitha Sahasranamam every day, early in the morning and every evening. We do Kanya Puja and Suhasini Puja... till Dasami, it is only NamaSmaran of Devi Bhavani Maa...
Jai Bhavani Maa!
Love, Padma

Hello Padma, loved reading your post. Reading it I felt, our country is so diverse in languages and customes, yet the essense of celebrating Durga Ma or Ambaaji as we call in Gujarat is so same. Navratri is a big occasion for us as we celebrate the Glory of Ambaaji (Durga Ma) for nine days and sing and dance (Garba) all along those days.
You know we are even having Garba classes organised in our society this year so that we can have a beautiful synchronization. Because being a cosmopolitan locality many people do not know how to dance and so do not join in the garba. Don't you think these rehearsals will make Navratri more delightful?
Have you witnessed Navratri in Gujarat?

Its been around 5-6 years that I have not been to Guwahati during Durga Puja. I really miss the wonderful days when we use to hop from one pandal to another, eating puchkas, chaat, chips, icecream, the sound of the dakh, the typical "khichdi" and the "payesh" and the evening aarti, oh my god!! How can I forget those days.
My durga puja used to start from Sasthi, then sapthami, asthami, navami and dashami. Without fail all the five days I used to wear new dresses and go out with my parents for devi ma darshan.
But since the last couple of years, due to my job I could' nt make it during the puja. I simply miss those days........

Its Maha Ashtami tomorrow and I miss Namrup badly on this day.
I have been staying in so many places since I left Namrup years ago, but have not been able to get over the wonderful time spent during Puja there. Its rightly said that love of the place where one is born and has spent their growing years lives on for ever.
But I guess whoever has been a part of Durga Puja celebrations there misses the 'Khisiri Bhog'. Many of our friends who have stayed connected are all nostalgic about it. Those were indeed the best of times!!
Anyone here from Namrup who can let us know about Durga Puja celebrations there now? Any pics would also be great.
