Re: Brahmaputra - The only Male River in India Hi Simran, thanks for raising this interesting topic. Brahmaputra is the lifeline of Assam.
All the rivers of India are Female rivers (Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada, Saraswati, Sabarmati, Mahanadi, Tapti, etc) except for Brahmaputra. It is deemed so because of its 'strength', gained from having a very healthy length and breadth. It is called Nada, while every other rivers are called Nadi.
It is one of the world's largest, on a scale with the Indus, Mississippi, and the Nile. The river flows for 2, 880 kilometres along India's northeastern border and encompasses a basin of around 924, 670 square kilometres. The Brahmaputra has its source at holy Mount Kailash Mansarover in Tibet, traverses the entire Tibetan plateau, and enters India in the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh after traveling hundreds of miles across Tibet as the 'Tsangpo river'.
The Brahmaputra offers beautiful scenery, excellent big white water and great wild life in this less-visited corner of the sub-continent. Various adventurous sports are held in the Brahmaputra river.
