Discuss Welcome to Assam! You'll fall in love, on IndusLadies. Welcome to Assam! You'll fall in love - Place to discuss for Indians from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim & Tripura..
This is an invitation to all the Indusladies visiting the forum to come and visit my state, Assam- The Land of the rising sun. It is the biggest of the 7 North-eastern states in India, also known as the seven sisters.
I'm so glad to find a category dedicated to the state in this forum. Although, I see not much people have written here, but I hope my friends will join in soon. I request my Assamese friends all over the world to come and share our thoughts about your Assam.
Friends, you must have visited different cities in India and the world and wowed at the beauty. But I bet, when you visit Assam you'll be awestruck as there is no other place which will bring you so close to nature. All you see around you is GREEN....and GREEN...and GREEN.
On one side you see the tea garden - which is the lifeline of Assam; the other side you see the green paddy fields..the roads all lined up with lush green tree leaves and the 'koyal' singing on your rooftop ....Kuhuuuuuu ...kuhuuu...
It is the only place where you can find the one-horn rhinoceros. So when you visit Assam, do not forget to meet your Rhino friend at the Kaziranga Zoo and forest reserve.
Assam is rich in culture, heritage, natural resources, wildlife and not to forget we have wonderful dishes to share as well.Tell me if I'm able to give you a visual introduction of my state. Also, let me know what else you want to know about Assam.
My husband spent his summer holidays in Duliyajan when he was young. So he always keeps talking about how lovely Duliyajan and other surrounding places in Assam were. Would love to visit beautiful Assam once. Hope it happens soon enough!
Thank you so-so much for writing such lovely thoughts on the mystical Assam. Sindhu, its pleasantly surprising to know about your Assam connection. Yes, Duliajan is a beautiful place and famously known for Oil India. Let me take you to the backdrop of Duliajan.
Quote:
Duliajan located in the upper northeast corner of India,is a small oil township situated in Dibrugarh District of Assam
Located approximately 520 kms away from Guwahati, the state capital of Assam India. Assam, Duliajan is famous for its tea and natural hydrocarbon resources like petroleum and Natural gas
Oil India Limited (OIL), a premier Govt. of India owned oil exploration and production company is the life line of Duliajan. Duliajan is the fields headquarter of OIL and within some of the oldest oil producing oilfields. It also hosts the Government of Assam owned Assam Gas Company Limited.
Duliajan, is a thriving industrial township set amidst lush green foliage round the year; and what strikes the first-time visitor to Duliajan is the abundance of 'greenery' all around, blending harmoniously with all and sundry as far as the eye can see.
Tell me if I'm able to revive your husband's memories from Duliajan.
Hope to see you there soon
Hi Mayuri,
You have described Assam in such a beautiful way. I would like to know if it's a suitable time to vacation in Assam and the NE of India, in general, during the months of July-August. I was browsing for some info on Sikkim and the NE but I think you can give me a good update on the States of NE. Thanks in advance. Joi Aai Asom! (Sorry, don't know what it means but it sounds so nice hence thought of wishing you the same!)

This is Pubali Chetia from Dispur, Guwahati th capital city of Assam. Could read your enthusiasm through the post and take this opportunity to write back to you. Mayuri indeed have made a beautiful representation of Assam; but it is more beautiful and serene than words can describe. You really have to come and see for yourself.
The best time to visit Assam is the winters and spring which is also the festive season in Assam. We celebrate Bhogali Bihu (i.e. Pongal, Lohri,Uttarayan in other parts of India) in the month of January to celebrate the new crop in the harvest season. This festival is marked with community feasts, bonfires and singing and dancing all through the night; followed by a morning of freshly made til peethas (traditional sweets made of rice flour stuffed with sesame and molasses). Yummm...
In the Month April along with Baisakhi in other parts of India we celebrate Rongali Bihu, which is the month of song, dance, making merry - and also of Romance and Marriage. There is a tradition when young couples in love elope and get married during this season.
Your description of Assam and the photos are very inviting. We have never traveler to Assam. Can you describe some popular places to visit and also about the safety issues to be taken by tourists?
Dear Pubali,
Thanks for the information about Rongoli Bihu and the best times to visit. How is the weather over there? Do you get a lot of rains?
Fascinating, Pubali! Thank you so much for the info. So, basically, it's a good time to visit Assam and the NE in the winters which is November thru' Jan, am I right? If that is the case, then I better plan to come that side during the December holidays. I would really like to venture out in the NE part of India. The people look so friendly and approachable and as you rightly mentioned, there's a lot of scenic beauty.
I'm definitely coming this december. Thanks once again. By the by, as sundarusha mentioned, could you also highlight what precautions should be taken while visiting the NE as a tourist. Thanks in advance.

So when do you choose to come??

Hi Richa, I'm so glad you could visualize Assam through my words. I didn't know my words could express so well . I think its 'love of my land' that is doing the magic. Thanks also to Pubali and Sundarusha for your kind words. I'm humbled.
Its great that you are considering visiting the North East. The best time to visit is November to April. The NE is almost like a virgin waiting to be explored. It is so beautiful and serene, yet so less known. Yes, insurgency in some form is responsible for the same.
But with some precautions you can definitely enjoy the stay here and the people of Assam are so hospitable and easy-going...you'll never feel like going back. However, you must remember, it is not a very forward region where you can expect to find the latest products; but yes, you will find things here which you will not find anywhere else in the world.
Look out for: Bamboo and cane items including furniture. They are exported in various countries. Silk: Muga and Panth - you'll be awestruck I bet; and guess what they are all handwoven to perfection Tea: Best quality tea Decorative items: Various kinds made of brass, stones, buffalo horns, dried palm leaves
And do not forget to buy a Jaapi and Gamosa (Pic attached). It is a representation of Assam and is always given to person as a symbol of honor and love.
Thank you so much, Mayuri once again for the info on Assam. I'll definitely visit Assam and the NE this year. Thanks for enclosing the picture as well.
The beauty of a place lies in it's uniqueness. I'm sure the things that you have described are unique and I would definitely look around for those things during my visit. Thank you so much. Appreciate.
