Let's see... My name is Sitara, and I am from Ohio, USA. I am a college student studying psychology and equestrian management (strange mix, I know =)). I am a bit of a dork, I love video games, movies, and music. I also love studying cultures and languages and religions, as part of my own spiritual search I suppose, which has brought me to Hinduism. I have recently converted to Hinduism, from a complete lack of affiliation with any one religion, and after many years of searching, I feel my soul has found the place it was supposed to be!

I found IndusLadies while exploring my local temple's website, and hoped I could find a good community of women to discuss all sorts of things with. I love Indian culture (dress, food, language, all of it) but I am having some trouble integrating myself as I know I should. And this is stemming from a lack of understanding of the culture, and how it fits in with American society. I am also very uncomfortable going to temple, as I seem to be the only white person among them, and I feel as though I am being singled out and stared at by the other women (and men), and many seem more amused than willing to be helpful. Hopefully, this community will be able to help me through this!

That's all I can think of to share, but I hope to be a very active participant in this community!

Hi Friends

I joined IL sum time back. I think it was in June 2007. I remember this bcoz I chanced upon IL when I was looking for a recipe. I wanted Jigar Thanda recipe !!!!!! I am a Keralite - born in Kerala, brought up in Trichy. Still I hadnt tasted Jigar Thanda till my husband introduced me to the wonderful drink when we went to Trichy in June 2007 (we were in Bangalore then). I liked it so much that I wanted to make it at home and thats when I came to know of IL and got registered too. And of course so many times logged in to read the wonderful articles, threads, recipes, etc etc. But never once made that "1st Post". I know too bad !!!!!! So today decided to do it.....

So here I go ...

As mentioned before I am a Keralite - born in Kerala, brought up in Trichy. Spent almost 23 wonderful yrs there. Got a job moved to Hyd. Was there about 4 yrs. Got married 2 yrs back and moved to Bangalore. My husband is from AP, so now when people ask me where I am from I prefer to tell I am a South Indian, else I have to tell them this long story....

My husband is in IT and so like most software professionals we are now in US last 10 months. Was in New Jersey from Sep to Feb and then moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. I will be very happy to get in touch with IL friends in MD or DC or VA. I am an Environmental Consultant, yes looking for jobs here in US now....

I love to cook. Thats one thing which has been keeping me busy last few months in US. I know many of you must be thinking " Oh poor Husband !!!!!" believe me - he's enjoying and of course put on wt too. So I guess my cooking isnt too bad.

Touchwood life has been wonderful so far, Feel very very blessed ....

So thats me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And before I close, HATS OFF TO IL - Its an amzing site. I luv everything that comes up on it. Found so many wonderful and very useful information. The best part is to c the responses for the various threads. Keep up the gud work..Wishing IL "All the Best"

There are lots of ILites from UAE, so you can go to the forum especially for Indians in UAE , where you can find people near you...

you seem to enjoy cooking, so you'll find that there are loads of recipes in IL...
