Our community is far flung. We have members not only from India, US, UK, Sinagpore etc, we also have members from Republic of Congo, Cyprus, Iraq, Afghanistan, Botswana etc. Even though we are all geographically distant, we can use this forum to know each other well and build a personal connection. The internet can truly make distance disappear!

In an effort to build a tight-knit community, we are starting this thread named "Who am I?" where members can write their profile for others to read. I am going to kick-off this thread with a brief profile about myself. Please feel free to add yours.

Let's know each other beyond login IDs!

Hi Tina - welcome to IL. The 'who am I' subforum is just to introduce yourself and tell us something about your life so far. As you can see most people have given a little bit about themselves. This is not a requirement - but just helps people to get to know you better. What you can also do is go the subforum Indians in Middle East and browse that section - you can also introduce yourself there. Also go through the other subforums - depending on your area of interest, you can find a lot of information. Another thread that you can go through is the Tips for newcomes in the New Member area - there are a lot of tips given to new members. Most of your questions may have answers there - but you are always welcome to ask any questions that you have in this forum as well. Thanks for joining us.

Hi Sushmitha - thanks for joining us in IL and giving us a peek into your life. I can quite understand how lonely and different the life must be after such a busy life in India. Running your own school - wow!! that is great. I am sure you can share some of your experiences with us. You love cooking - great - you have come to the right place - we have a treasure trove of recipes in the Recipes sub forum - if you have any special dishes that you would like to share, you can do that too. Since you say you have a lot of time on your hands now - start posting in IL!!

Hi Shyamal - welcome to IL. Reading your profile and about your hobbies - you have come to the right place - there are sub forums dedicated to gardening, recipes, etc. check it out - you will be amazed at how much there is - may be you can also share yours with us. You are like many women here - on the H4 visa - check out the subforum for Indians in Seattle - maybe you can make some friends who live nearby? Happy browsing!

Hello Simran -welcome to IL. I would like to suggest that you make a post in the Indians in Australia sub forum regarding schools, etc. You are likely to get a response there. In the mean time, tell us a little more about yourself.

Who am I?

i am someone i discovered after 40 years - after walking out of an abusive and violent marriage of 10 years - with the sole responsibility of a (then) 9 year old brilliant daughter who had become quiet and withdrawn, and a (then) 5 year old son, who, having witnessed the violence had completely withdrawn into his shell - who had to be put into a section for children with learning disabilities when he had no disabilities, only emotional problems.
i am someone who faced huge problems - financial, emotional - every problem possible - but i am someone who discovered that this is a wonderful world - where people reach out to help you - all u have 2 do is ask for help.
i am someone who discovered that the greatest strength you have is within u - all u have to do is know urself.
i am someone who today has a brilliant daughter, excelling in her studies, a son who is in the process of being mainstreamed in his education - he is in the mainstream section for 3 out of 5 subjects.
i am someone who published a book, "Woman of the Elements" and released it in november 2006, through the All India Women's Conference at new delhi.
the book is about how every woman has within her the power, joy and strengths of the elements within her, that all she has to do is to recognise her strengths.
i am someone who wishes to tell every woman in the world that u have every power, every joy within u - know the fact, remember it.
i am someone who has come through - it's been a long journey - with its share of pain and pitfalls, but if i have, then any woman can....
i am Rashmi Anand
