Turmeric is a spice that has been used since ages immemorial for various ailments. Turmeric is considered as an auspicious symbol in most of the Indian festivities and rituals. It is one of the most used spices in any of the Indian dishes. Apart from all the other amazing health benefits of turmeric, it has a good reputation as an excellent skin care remedy. In fact, beauty products make use turmeric as an active ingredient.

Here are few ways to use turmeric for skin –

    1. Turmeric makes an awesome body scrub. Add turmeric with gram flour (besan) and milk and apply on the body. The skin will be supple, soft and glowing. This is one of the beauty rituals used by the Indian brides.
    2. Turmeric has excellent antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, which is useful in treating cuts, burns and other skin infections.
    3. The curcumin compound present in turmeric functions as a coloring agent, which inhibits the production of melanin (skin pigment) that gives a fair complexion to the skin.
    4. The antioxidant properties of turmeric are beneficial to curb the free radicals giving the skin a youthful and radiant look that is devoid of rashes and other disorders.
    5. The anti-aging properties of turmeric reduce wrinkles and fine lines on the skin. Combine turmeric with cucumber for maximum benefits.
    6. A mixture of virgin coconut oil, sandalwood paste and turmeric is beneficial in treating acne, zits, blemishes, spots and boil. Use it as a ready concealer when you have dark spots on the skin. Turmeric and lemon juice work great in hiding those ugly blemishes.
    7. Apart from putting turmeric on the skin, it has great benefits when it is ingested internally. Use it in food or mix it in hot water with pepper and fat for better absorption.
    8. Get rid of excess facial hair with turmeric and castor oil.

Most people are apprehensive of using turmeric as it can stain the skin yellow. Turmeric when mixed with oil is easier to rinse with water. Leaving turmeric on the skin is actually more beneficial but if you are too worried, you can use a facial toner after washing the turmeric mixture.

    Keep Glowing ! :)

i have also seen a local doctor applying a pinch of honey and turmeric on a toe after removing the ingrown nail..
