Came with some more suggestions from my amma and grandma,

1) The most effective remedy for common cold would be to have lime juice. Take a glass of lukewarm water and dilute the lime juice in it. Add a tsp of honey to enhance its efficacy.
2) Make a powdered mixture of black pepper and mix this in curd. Add jaggery or sugar candy to it. Take this two times a day to get cured of common cold.
3) One of the simple home remedies for body odor is to put a few drops of rose water in the bathtub, before taking bath. It will give you a long lasting freshness and serve as a good substitute for deodorant.
4) An effective remedy for treating cough would to slightly cut a lemon and fill it with black pepper. Suck this as it would reduce the cough.
5) Take a little turmeric powder and add a few drops of lime juice. Apply this on the darkened area. This would help to reduce tan effectively.

This really works for me. whenever i have sore throat or cough(post infection), I will do this. Boil a glass of milk with nicely grounded ginger. Allow it to boil in simmer. Add palm sugar candy to it and drink it hot!
It soothes your throat and within two to three days the cough disappears without trace!

 

Also try this for Acne. make a paste of nutmeg by rubbing it against hard surfaces(i use the stone that we use for rubbing sandal wood) with rose water and apply that over acne for spot correction.
Don't do this when acne is infected viz if acne appears reddish
