Oil pulling, also known as oil swishing, is a traditional Indian folk remedy for treating various health problems. Oil pulling involves swishing oil in the mouth for health benefits. It is a popular Auyurvedic treatment, which is referred as Kavala Gandoosha / Kavala Graha in the Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita. Oil Pulling Therapy is a very simple process.

    The Oil Pulling Therapy
The process is simply to rinse the mouth with approximately one tablespoon of oil. For about 15-20 minutes everyday on an empty stomach rinse your mouth with oil and then spit it out. Tilt you chin up when the oil in the mouth, and slowly swish, suck, and pull the oil through the teeth. During the process, the oil changes to a thick viscous consistency and then it gets thinner and white. Then you spit the oil out. The spitting needs to be done before the toxins get re-absorbed by the body. When the oil viscosity starts thinning, it is a sign that toxins are getting re-absorbed and hence you spit it out. You can again take the second round of fresh oil pulling. This process makes oil thoroughly mixed with saliva. After that you thoroughly rinse your mouth with normal water and you can also brush your teeth.
    Warning
DO NOT swallow the oil (it is loaded with toxins)!
DO NOT gargle in the throat!
