Question Western Dance Lessons

Hi Friends,

I have a great passion in dancing. I have learnt Bharathanatyam. Now I want to learn western dance. There are so many varieties in western dance like tap, Ballet, jazz, Hip Hop, salsa,... And I do not know which one to choose. I like to learn fast pace dance like they do in movies.

Does anybody know/learn the dance which I specify? I have heard salsa is like dancing in couples. I don't want that type. Ballet is also similar to salsa, i guess. Either jazz or hip hop resembles our movie dance, i guess.

I have heard some of the dance studios in chennai teaching western dances.( came to know thr' Vijay TV's Jodi no. 1 show) Does anybody have experience with this class?

Eagerly waiting to hear your inputs...

hi Inimai,

I have a friend who works for the RAACK Academy. She is a junior dancer and has participated in Jodi No.1 and other such shows. From her, I know that there are regular classes conducted in all the forms you mentioned. Freestyle etc. I dont have any personal experiece with any dance school, but she says there are many who offer great service. John Brittos, Shaimak Dhavar's SDIPA and RAACKS are considered to be the best.

One other to add to Archana's list is 'Swingers'. You may choose which best suits you in terms of your choice of style, proximity and fees.

Cheers!

Hi Archana and Anusha,

Thank you for your valuable inputs! I am not sure whether i can take classes as I will be visiting chennai for a week or two. I want to know about the dance types/styles before I join here in USA.

Now I came to know that there is one more type called "free style".

Thank you once again!

Hi Avita,

Is that "Free style" combination of all (or few) styles? Any idea?

Thanks!
