Ghazals lovers here???

I love ghazals whether they are in recent movies or old ones or non filmy...

I went obsessed with the ghazals when I first heard chitti aayee by pankaj..
but just because my favourite hindi teacher told us the distinct meaning in a passionate way. and i am always indebted to her for her way of teaching poetry be it meera,tulsi,kabir or surdas or the harivanshrai bacchan.

Though I was a jagjit singh and chitraji's fan. but the passion for the lyrics started later for me...

The actual love for reading and understanding and then listening started with a ghazal in the movie DADDY (i think it was pooja bhatt's first movie )...It was a melody sung by talat aziz, written by suraj sanim

Mein bhatakta hi raha, dard ke veeranay mai
Waqt likhta raha chehre pe har pal ka hisaab

Sorry.... I don't have interest in Ghazals. But my husband loves them.
Now a days, there is no time for anything.

Great Shanvy, count me in as an ardent ghazal lover --- though it's been ages ago since I've heard one . Hubby doesn't know that much Hindi to appreciate the fantastic lyrics ; so after marriage itself, just used to occassionally put a cassette & listen when he was not around.
I remember Bade Ghulam Ali, Pankaj Udhas , Hariharan[before his movie days] and the popular Talat Aziz ; my elderly uncle always used to confuse him with Talat Mehmood ---- 'cos of similar name ??
I also love the moving , molten voice of Jagjit Singh -- esp." Garaj Baras Pyaasi Dharthi par phir paani de moulaa "
He also became popular with title songs for hindi serials like Daraar, Sailaab etc. .......

Oh Shanvy, you've stirred up so many memories in me ; let me have a look at my collection stored in some box of course, and get back with some more gems ....

I love to listen to ghazals when going on long drives. veda will accept it as long as he understands the meaning. Infact he picks up jagjit singh cassettes whenever he sees one...

I love ghazals. Hariharan has a voice that suits ghazal singing..i know he sings even now...there is one maikhade mein...that is very stirring.

Oh, I have a whole list of singers...jagjit, ghulam ali saheb, talat aziz, suraiyya,nusrat fateh ali khan,pankaj, anoop jalota, roopkumar,...

And i do collect them..I am listening to the Haath chute to bhi rishta nahi choda..by jagjt singh...

Know what abhi listening to woh kaagaz ki kashti....it is a very beautiful ghazal aur jagjit singh voice is like soney pey suhaaga..and it transports us back down memory lanes...

Apart from chitti aayee, there are very beautiful renditions by him....

hey btw, there is this song by adnan sami in jogger's park...i really liked it..Lyrics is not so khaas...but the way he sings this song makes you really like it.
