Default Anyone working with NGO's ?

is anyone here working with any NGO ? I am hoping to find "my calling" and give some time to working for an NGO. I am moving back to mumbai after a while so I was looking for someone with some experiance.
I will be in the borivli/Andheri area.

Can someone introduce me to specific NGO's they are working with ? (I can come for a personal visit or some websites etc would be helpful )

Seema

Hi,
Its good that you are willing to work with NGO's you are most welcome to the family. Though i'm not directly working with any NGO in Mumbai right now, I have my own NGO in Pune. I have contacts in a few NGO's in Mumbai which work for different segments like street children, orphanages, women, slums, beggers, mentally retarded people, old age homes etc. If you tell me which area you wish to work in I can refer you to the concerned people. But in NGO field we do not have the leisure of timings and areas. We have worked for days continuously, without food till evening, left food and ran sometimes. So that could be one issue but never mind not many people even like to enter the field.

Hi Vaidehi,

I am new to this forum so I don't know if I can post email address here. I would have sent u my email and we could have spoken more.
Right now I really don't know what I would like to work with. All I know is that I want to do something that will directly benefit someone other than my family. Does it make any sense ? I guess I feel like I am ready to give back to our community in whatever little way possible.
I want to definately sponser a child's education. But I want to see the child and be there. No just by sending money and hoping it reached the right place.

Can you point me to the folks u know ? I can visit them and maybe find what I am truely interested in. I would love to work with kids but also I am afraid that I am not strong enough to see kids suffering. I have 2 very little kids of my own and maybe I should start with something else.
Not sure if I am making any sense to u. Send me your email address or a private message.

Thanks
Seema

You confused me. You said you want to work for children then you are telling you might not be able to see them suffering. But dear this sensuality of yours is very good if you want to work in social field. Secondly what you want to do we call it as sponsoring a child for this you don't require any NGO's support. You could visit any nearby school, orphanage or observation home (people call it as remad home) and sponsor a child for his/her year. You need not pay the amount directly. You pay their school fees, buy notebooks, other stationary they need, uniform and other required things and done.
Right now we both being new to IL don't have private message facility. Once i get it i'll message you till then you can try what i've suggested. Hope this solves your query.

Ops...sorry if I confused u. I am aware of how to sponser a child. thats is something I will do as soon as I reach India. I just did not want to send money from NJ and not sure how it was used.

I am also looking into other NGO's to see what I can do. I saw a few wesbite but wanted to get first hand info from someone who works for these. Just thought someone on this forum might know.

Do not post details of any ngo in open thread.

You can post the details in il directory - mumbai.

I have a few ngo's listed out there too.

You can also do the same.

Details posted in the open thread will be deleted.
