IPL Cricket Matches Played in Navi Mumbai


Navi Mumbaikars will no longer have to travel all the way to South Mumbai to watch the high profile IPL Cricket Matches. Beginning from April 27, 2008 five official Crikcet Matches will be played at D. Y Patil Stadium, Nerul, Navi Mumbai. This stadium is ranked as mumbai’s third International Standard Cricket Ground. The stadium has the capacity to hold 55,000 spectators.

Hafeez Contractor designs this Stadium. It has nine hard tennis court, a cricket field, an Olympic-sized Swimming Pool and four indoor badmitton courts. The cantilever roof provides unobstructed view of the match from any place within the stadium. There are 12 exists across the stadium. The soil of the pitch is imported from South Africa and the outfield is the only one in India (perhaps) with a base of sand.

We are all proud to be living in Navi Mumbai. The stadium is making its debut on 27^th April, 2008 and the schedule of the matches is as follows:

April 27, 2008 - Mumbai Indians V/s Hyderabad Deccan Chargers 8.00 p.m. onwards
May 04, 2008 – Mumbai Indians V/s Delhi Daredevils 4.00 p.m. onwards
May 07, 2008 – Mumbai Indians V/s Rajasthan Royals 8.00 p.m. onwards
May 14, 2008 – Mumbai Indians V/s Chennai Super Kings 8.00 p.m. onwards
May 16, 2008 – Mumbai Indians V/s Kolkata Knight Riders 8.00 p.m. onwards

All the above five matches will be played under floodlights and to the delight of Navi Mumbaikars. The mega star of the cricket will be seen live along with the film stars and ofcourse Shahrukh Khan on the last day.

D.Y.Patil Stadium at Nerul, Navi Mumbai was looking nothing less than a groom. 55,000 power packed spectators were hooting with loud cheers for their home team irrespective of the fact that they were fairing very badly. Support is what they need, we are giving them, we are encouraging them were the words that could be heard. To facilitate uninterrupted power supply 16 power generators were lined up with stocks of 17,000 litres of Diesel. The organizers spent 7 lacs on fuel and 2.5 crores on generators according to the press. A 500 KV generator was specially kept to power the mega screen flashing the score. Power was not taken from MSED as the city is facing mega power cuts. Parking arrangements were made for around 1500 vehicles. Cheer Leaders were present and they were fully clothed.

Pizza, burger and fast food outlets were located near each gate and jersey, caps and other outfits were also sold.

Do I say, the crowd loved Mumbaikars so much that inspite of them losing or finally lost, they were constantly cheering for them. Bhajji ne mara thappad ab bait ke kha raha hain pappad… he he..

Swapnil Asdonkar is a Goan who has been playing for the D Y Patil Sport Club for the last few years. He bows to his Coach Abey Kuruvilla who has the knack of picking up talents. Anodkar played his shots and the results are there for us to see. He was declared the MAN OF THE MATCH.

He will be again seen at D Y Patil Stadium on May 7 when Mumbai Indians play Rajasthan Royals.

Chaos and Confusion at D.Y.Patil Stadium


The 23^rd IPL Match played here between Mumbai Indians and Dare Devils on 4^th May 2008 turned out to be a chaos with paper aeroplanes flying all over the stadium, several gate crashers and stampede at food court. The food was over priced too.

Passages were flooded with gatecrashers making the match almost impossible to view. The capacity of the stadium is 55, 000 and the spectators were nearly double. Water bottles were hurled on the ground, the giant screen displayed details of batsmen and scores while that of the bowlers were ignored.

The total mismanagement of the orgnaziers as well as city police was clearly visible.

The final match of IPL tournament will be held at D.Y.Patil Sports Academy. Navi Mumbai Police has said that it will not allow the use of loudspeakers after the 10 p.m. deadline for the finals that will be held here.

Navi Mumbai Police have already taken action against Wizcraft the Event Organizers for violating the norms (playing loudspeakers beyond deadline) during the match held here on April 27, 2008. The matter is pending in the court.

Revised Price of Tickets for Finals to be held in the prestigious D. Y. Patil Sports Academy, Nerul, Navi Mumbai

The management had hiked the prices to four times of its original making the buyers drop the plan of going for live matches. They quickly revised the rates. It is Mumbai and here people do not give extra importance to events, which is out of their reach. It does not matter whether it is Shane Warne or Tendulkar. Mangement, learn a lesson!! It is our hard earned money bhai!!!

There will four mobile stages across the stadium, making it interactive with full entertainment. There will be Mumbai Folk Dancers performing live. World Renowned, ‘Cirque Du Soleil’ acrobats on German Wheels with the logos of all the IPL teams performing, four trampoline artists doing synchronized jumps with the flavour of Bollywood actors like Amrita Arora, Shamita Shetty, Sameera Reddy and Dia Mirza will perform to the eight team songs along with 180 other dancers representing each of the four zones of India from North to South and East to West. Salman Khan will be the star attraction too. A laser and light display, paragliders gliding around the stadium performing stunts in the air, pyros and fireworks and much more will be happening today (1^st June 2008).
