Donation.

Firstly I hope this is the right section to open a new thread on this topic. If not Moderator please move this thread.

I just want to know how do you actualy say No when someone asks you for a donation. Pls dont get me wrong, I do give donation whenever I can or when my heart say so.
I have difficult time saying no that I feel I am "forced" to give. On the otherhand as I dont want to offend the person who ask(mostly known person) I just give. Deep inside I dont feel good about it.

Have anyone here come across such a situation? How do you handle it? Please share your way here. Thanks.

Yup....again the lesson about saying NO,....its so difficult to say no...thats where we get hit most of the times...

Best thing...let the person who ever asks you for donation. let them know that you have already enrolled in diff. institutions and donating to those frequently and its all scheduled automatically. Tell them that..

If not, best possible thing, which i follow lately is...I have to chk with my husband

Very simple.

(1) Tell them, thanks, Let me think about it and if interested will let you know.
(2) I am doing my share of "giving back to the society". Thanks for the info, but I cannot now
(3) Or say that you have reached your budget for this year.. "Oh, thanks, but we are at our limit."
(4) I know this is for a great cause and I sincerely pray and hope that you get as many as donations as possible, but at this time, we have already committed funds for so and so this year"

Vidya, I do have one more question, wouldnt saying I will check with my DH and revert, put him as the bad person if we later decide not to proceed with the donation request?

No Dear. My husband has a better way of saying NO than me. He explains in short simple words, why something may/may not work or if heis not interested.

So If I cant say NO, right away right on the face of the opp. person, I buy in time, so that I can gather words/thoughts and take tips from my husband on how to put it across. Ofcourse he too wont say NO all the time, sometimes we do go back and say YES. but for people like us, who cant say an upright NO, this time buying helps alot.

By the way he too does the same at his work, he will say let me chk with my wife, she takes care of such donations and extra curricular activities etc....or sometimes if colleagues push him to go for a boys night out, he will say let me talk to her/let me call her (gives both of us time to plan things)
