Hi Chocloate !!!!!!1
Interesting name though I will call you choco.........

Choco ,I will try to handle your mutual fund query............!!!!!!!

First Long term.........only and only SIP in gud mutual funds for horizon of atleats 5 years can give you good compounded returns

I dont know how much basic insight you have on mutual fund ........ or If you are first time entrant in the markets here is some basic info.

First allocate funds category wise.There are broadly three cate gories large cap funds ( safest ) , mid cap or you can say aggressive funds , sectorial funds depending upon the stock portfolio and risk grading .

If you are first timer , your maximum allocation should go in large cap funds , Like out of 100 rs , you should allocate 65-70 re in large cap , 15-20 re in gud midcaps and 5-10 re in sectorial funds .

Few good large cap funds are
-->hdfctop200
-->Sundram select focus
-->birla frontline equity
--> Dsp top100
---> hdfc equity
My personal holdings hdfctop 200 and birla frontline equity. both have beaten the sensex performance.......

Few Good mid caps are
Reliance Growth
Sundram select midcap
Birla midcap
HDFC growth
My holding hdfc growth

Few gud sectorial funds
Tata infra
DSP tiger
ICICI infra

My holdings tata infra

I have just named very few of the funds .......these are
1> consistent and have outperformed the sensex
2> all the above listed funds have varied stock holdings to avoid duplication
If you have query on specfic fund or any conceptual underastnding on how these funds work , how to asses gud fund etcetc which is not listed above........feel free to ask me .

Belive me , Select gud funds in SIP orSTP mode you will never go wrong .........My personal and professional experience!!!!!!!!!!!!

And regarding your short term query.........i need to know you much hand you have on stock trading and playing in between the levels........let me know how much experience you have on markets..then i will able to advise you ...... how to play short term .

Puja

No Probs lakshmi .........
you are welcome
1> your first question about debt funds ?

Debt funds are completely different from equity funds . They invest in govermnet bonds and papers. they are safe and steady . You can expect 7-8% return yearly basis pre tax. These funds are interest rate sensitive. Since last year inetrest were volatile , thats why debt funds could give 10-12% . In debt funds , upside and downside both are limited .

2> You ask me which are preferable regular or debt funds?
well both have different strategy alll together. See understand one thing equity related instrument create wealth provided you choose the right funds properly and keep your horizon longer . if you say i want to make money and exit in 6mnth to one year then equity mutual funds are definetly not for you .

Ideally , its like this if you plan five funds keep four equity funds and one debt fund .........in you portfolio ............

If you look history .....even after 3 market crashes and recessions equity mutual funds is still able to deliver 20% compounded returns annual basis .......if and only if you invest systematically

and if somebody has suggested you debt funds or gilt funds showing last year performance then dont get carreid away ..........last year was expectional year and if you study now debt funds are right now gone soft ........
so i need to undersatnd what is your objective?
you wantt o invest , trade or you just want to park money for short term?
Puja
