The data is really a shocker to lots.

But i personally feel, the reason for the petrol prices to go this far, is the speculation market.

to give a broader view, the experts feel , that since the start of oil futures, oil prices are no longer controlled by OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) and now who does the pricing..it is the wall street players and the other powerpacked players around the world like Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, J P Morgan Chase, and Morgan Stanley who know the in and out of the oil futures and derivatives.
though there is another school of thoughts that negates the reason.

Otherwise i sincerely doubt how goldman sachs could predict a $200 a barrel by end 2008. does this mean we are in for more price rise, and to think all the dominoes effect of this on the conditions of living, the food chain and all is really scary..

So apart from the markets, what are the other reasons that could trigger this prices...

one being the us dollar.. the depreciating dollar has been the prime culprit in this, the reason being the oil prices are dollar denominated.

the constant threat in the oil facilities in nigeria, the main contributor.
The demand is more than the supply. and the developing countries should look into alternative sources.

On the whole the common man is the one who has to bear the brunt, though the government says that the oil companies are bearing the brunt and they are forced to increase the price, and there is one increase due anytime now...

The impact of rising fuel prices is quickly being felt everywhere. I also read somewhere that US consumes 400 million gallons of gasoline every day. This demand for gas has pushed gas prices to record highs. The escalating crisis has forced undesirable changes in the lifestyle of Indian Americans.
