I would like to know if its good to invest in 529 plan in US for kids future education or any of their personal expenses. I am under the assumption that 529 investment can be used only if we have plans to reside permanently in US and kids are still residing in US at the time of withdrawal and that it can only be used for their education in US for their colleges.We don't have plans to stay in US for long time till our kids grow to use the 529 funds for their education. Hence is it still advisable to invest in it, also looks like only 2 colleges in India recognize the 529 funds for medical education.I have also come across people mentioning about roth IRA which is better and can withdraw the money after 5 years. Anyone who have had invested in 529 or has any idea pls suggest.
