It is great to note each and everyone of you have an equal say in the decisions. After having read many many posts here where women have no say in anything, it is really good to read this!!

Hi Sobhana,
I am not a money person......be it fellowship (while studying) or salary (now)....
I do whatever I want but I have this habit of saying it before doing/investing on
something.......
With my DH, the same thing is going on.........he will ask me for everything.....
Kind of mutual understanding....
I think whoever does the thinking/taking decisions, should be the least concern as long as its for the betterment of the family.........
With my parents.......my mom is the real home-maker and she does manage all these issues while with me and my hubby, I like his decisive abilities.........but at the end, the fruit should be sweet..........
Regards.

Nice topic Shobana.

Glad to hear that all the responses so far are positive.

Yes, there are still many households where men are the primary and at times, the only decision makers. Sometimes it is out of choice and sometimes it is not. There are women who think that finances is not their cup of tea and wash their hands off. Some just don't like to move out of their natural comfort zone of taking care of the other household duties. Some say, I trust my husband so I don't feel the need to meddle! All reasons are perfectly valid for each individual!

No reason is valid enough for me to not be involved. I love and I am a part of every financial decision that is made in my house.

I think whether we women like it or not, we have to at the least be aware of what decisions are being made, what were the other options available and why this one was chosen. Money is a practical and necessary aspect of living so we must learn to handle it.

Thanks for making us all revisit this important facet of our living!

Thumbs down Re: Who is the decision maker?

Hi! me & my husband take financial decisions together, except when it comes to his spending on his parents ( i don't want to interfere).
AND this might sound selfish & mean but for my own & kids financial security i have a separate bank account ( no excess to my husband or anyone) in which my husband puts a BIG amount every month.
i know! i know! some will think why? is your husband not good or not faithful, NOTHING of this sort! he is the best one can have. May be i am not working so this gives me a financial security. I only shell out money from this account when we need to invest or buy property. My husband also knows i don't spend a Cent from this account, no jewelery, no outing, nothing so he also doesn't mind. WIN WIN situation for both

Hi

we make financial decisions together. Two heads are better than one, right!
Whether a woman is materialistic or not, learning to manage finances is a necessary skill.

Hi,

I my case, me and my husband discuss all money matters before taking a decision. Be it opening an account or investing in MF or shares, we ask for each otherīs approval.

Regards,
Yamuna.

Actually it is better to have combined decision as we can get the other persons ideas as well. In my home, I am working and year before not bothered abt this aspect. (as mentioned by others)..ofllate due to necessity, as my DH is very busy and compelled me to handle. I started learning the intricacies..Now we both share and decided upon some thing. What I conclude is that it depends on interest/awareness/situation..whats ur feedback?
