You can try apple Thokku with tart granny smith apples or any tart apples. Wash and grate the apples and make thokku the same way you make tomato thokku. Comes out yum and goes well with idli/dosa.
Like mango pachadi we can make apple pachadi too..
Deskin and cut apples into cubes
In a vessel add apples and enough water to cook..Do not pour water and make it like halwa instead add desired quantity then and then
Along with this add salt, turmeric, green chillies(chopped),very little crushed ginger(optional) & little jaggery..Cook covered..Once well-cooked..Mash and temper with "Mustard seeds,Asafoetida and curry leaves"
Can try this with sour pineapples too(increase jaggery according to your taste)
On new year we make this with mango..also add "neem flowers"..so we get a combination of all tastes such as sweet,sour,bitternes...
Apples should always be stored in the fridge not out at room temperature. In the fridge they will last for weeks or months so no need to hurry to use.
You can bake apples: wash and take out the core but leave a bottom in the apple. Fill with a mixture of oats, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, put a pat of butter on top and bake in a pan in a 375 oven until tender. Serve warm. A little vanilla ice cream is good with htis if using for a dessert.
Fresh apples : 3
chilli powder : 2 tablps
sugar : 1/4 kg
panch poron: (mix of kala jeera, jeera, mustard, methi seeds, jeera): 1 tsp

ginger;1/2 tsp sliced thin
Chop the apples into small pieces.Take a kadai, add the apple pieces, add 1/4 cup water and cook till apples are soft.Add the panch poron and ginger slices.Add sugar and continue stirring till the sugar dissolves.Add chilli powder and continue to cook till the mix leaves the side of the kadai.Add the venigar, off the gas.Cool and serve this chutney with rotis or bread.Store in fridge.Shelf life 1 week.
