HI
This is for all my southindian friends who must be very well knowing how to preserve idli and dosa batter in fridge for a week and also what method should be used to prepare batter so that i can use one same batter for idli plus dosa insted for making two seprate batters..
pl let me know as trying for my son to get a habit of eating dosa and idlies in breakfast alternate days as its very healthy....

dear kads,
just grind the batter in between that is not too course and not too fine, and u can use it the next day for dosa, or add some aval like how they have mentioned here, regards sunkan

Default Help for making idlis..

Hi all of you ,
I would be glad if anyone can tell me if its possible to make idlis using basmati rice.. We have onle one indian grocery store near our place and he does not stock idli rice..so was wondering if i can use basmati rice along with urad dal..???? has anyone tried this ..Here i do get thick italian rice(which look similar to par boiled rice ) but dont know wheter they can be used to making idlies..any other suggestions or ideas would be helpful... To say the truth im craving to eat Idli sambar .... :) tired of pizzas n pastas ...:)

Hi Gauri,

Dont worry, you can prepare idly by using basmati rice that too raw one. what you have to do is, just

soak 2 sp fenugreek seeds for 24 hours and after that you soak rice and udad dal for 6-8 hours. Then grind them. Keep the dough for 12 hours and then make idly. Surely it will come soft. The feramentation is important, if it is cold season you can keep the dough for some more time or keep it in the MW. Try and give me a feed back.
