HI,

You can use baking soda instead of ENO. Both are sodium bicarbonate. I always use baking soda while making dokhlas.

Ranjoose:
Do you use the same amount as Eno? Does it fizz up the same way?

BTW, I have found that microwave doklas turn out very well as opposed to steaming. (Found that out before I got rid of my micro.)

Thanks Ranjita, I have the same question, how much soda bicard would substitute 1 tsp eno?

Tashidelek2002, how did you make the dhokla in the microwave?

Thanks.

Ladies:
I looked this morning for the print outs on that microwave dokla, managed to get a paper cut (injured in the line of action), but still have not found what I was looking for. The micro was the same as the steamed version (Tarla Dalal recipes) and I was looking for the time needed. You need to put your batter in a greased micro pan (pyrex is good....they have rectangle ones) and then add the enos and cover with plastic wrap and micro. I was just looking on TD website and saw this rava recipe:

Microwave Dhokla - Contributed by Member on tarladalal.com

This sweet corn one is my fav:

MAKAI KA DHOKLA Recipe - by Tarla Dalal

The first recipe she is nuking it for 12 mins. Why don't you try something like 10 mins and check it?

Tina

Hello ladies,
here is the recipe for rawa dhokla..

Ingredients:
Rawa(fine)- 1 cup
Oil(I use canola)- 1 tbspn
Ginger paste- 1/2 to 1 tspn(according to your taste)
Turmeric Powder- 1/4 tspn
Water-1/4 cup
Well beaten yoghurt- 3/4 cup
Baking soda- 1 tspn
Salt- to taste

Mix rawa, oil, ginger paste, salt, turmeric powder and yoghurt in a bowl. Mix well so that no clumps form. Add water to make a nice batter. Set aside for about 20- 30 min.
Bring water in a pressure cooker to boil. Grease the utensil with oil/cooking spray. Now add baking soda to the batter and mix. Pour it into the greased vessel immediately. See to it that the vessel is only half filled because it will rise up.
Now steam cook the batter without putting weight on the cooker gor 20 min. Remove and let it cool for some time.

Temper it with mustard curry leaves and green chilllies and coriander.
I followed this recipe from showmethecurry.com. Only i substituted the eno salt with soda bicarb.

Try it out and let me know how it came out!!!

Ranjita
