Default To eliminate smell of fish and meats in knife

Don’t throw away the used lemon!

Here is a tip to eliminate the smell of fish and meats in knife on cutting them. Rub the knife with the skin of lemon and wash it.
The smell will go off!

Default Coconut milk dishes

Dishes with coconut milk are very common food of Keralites and are really yummy.
I wanted to make the same in my house but when I add coconut milk, it gets spoiled(piriyal in Malayalam). Is there any way by which we can avoid this?

Post Adding lemon juice retains color...

Adding few drops of lemon juice while cooking the vegetables will also help to retain the color.

Another tip for cooking cauliflower - to retain the white color of it, add few drops of milk to the water in which it is being cooked.

Default Coconut milk dishes

Of course we do a solution to your problem. Here it goes……
Add little corn flour to water. Mix it. Then, add this mixture to
the coconut milk dishes and it will not get spoiled.

To store fish for 2 to 3 days, clean it, rub with salt and turmeric, also if you prefer, with a dash of vinegar before freezing.

Default Add bicarb for all green veggies

In a pan of boiling water add 1/2 tspn of bicarb and then add any green veggies. This will make the veggies stay green and will also cook quickly.

Add a pinch of hing in the oil before frying/cooking fish. It reduces the pungent smell of fish.

Post Add rice flour

Hi Janet,

You can also try this to adjust excess salt in curries...

Dry roast 2 - 3 tspn of rice flour and add it to the curry.

Default A pinch of sugar

To retain the green color while cooking peas and spinach, add a pinch of sugar.

I have tried and it works.
