Yes. I agree with pmahensa. As she says , by adding milk and hot water while making the dough , you will get soft chappathis. After making the dough , keep it covered for atleast 30 mins. Once you toast the chapathi , please put it in a hot box , it will also help in keeping it soft.

Regards
RB

I will say the way I make it.I mix 1 teaspoon of cooking oil and salt in the chapathi flour .Then pour required quantity of cool water and knead it.The amount of water used usually makes the chapathi softer or harder. When u knead the flour u should be able to knead it easily without much pressure. This will give u softer chapathis.
Also if u visit the link YouTube - Paratha - Indian Bread
you can watch a video clearly explaining how to make soft chapatis.
Hope this helps.All the best.

seeba.

Dear Seeba,
Out of curiosity, I visited the YouTube Link, you have given. I followed the recipe, they showed verbatim - I used the dough kneader (2 blades) of the electric blender for kneading the dough. I kneaded in the morning, refrigerated it & took it out an hour before dinner. The chappathis came out excellent & soft, puffing nicely.
Thanks for a very useful link.
Love,
Chithra.

I am stuggling a lot in making rotis soft.Whenever I make rotis It gets so hard that we cannot chew it properly.Literally we are missing India's Roti's.
Thats why we started making Parathas only but it requires lots of oil and ghee which is not good for health. So I need to make soft rotis. Please give me tips and tricks so that I can make rotis soft.

I am not so well versed in Rotis/Chappathi's so not sure if this is a great tip but I generally mix flour with salt and then mix some milk / curd to the flour and then add warm water little by little kneading the dough and finally add some ghee.I prefer making the dough little sticky than too tough as I feel the latter makes the roti rough quite soon.

Thanks for starting this thread , I too am waiting for experts advice so that I can use it too. :)

I have gas for cooking so my rotis come out great.
I usually mix my dough using food processor since i am getting lazy to do by hand.
I usually mix plain atta with warm water and spin the FP till dough is formed . Then make roti and put it on the gas burner too.
Hope I helped
