Default Protecting our kids from bullying !

Hi everyone,

Thought I will share recent events that happened to a friends 8 yr old child while playing at the neighbourhood park. Rohit goes out to play in our park regularly but last Sunday came back with severe headache and was crying and told his parents that he fell down and got hurt. Parents did necessary first aid and it was only later in the night that the mother saw the red marks on his neck. To her total shock after much prodding Rohit confessed that he got into a fight with friends and that after watching a few Wrestling moves on TV two of his friends had knocked him down and tried to strangulate him. one kid has practically sat on him and tried to choke him. Alarmed the parents rush to the doctors the next day and luckily but for a scary red bruise on the child's neck , he was not seriously injured. But the doctor went on to say that even if for a few seconds a child is suffocated it could result in serious brain damage.

This whole incident got me totally worked up and made me wonder what kind of parents lets their kids to watch and learn from such violent programmes.

Was also shocked to learn from my son that such moves seem to be very common in the school playground also.No one bothers to even report these things as it is very common occurence. It shocks me that such an erratic violent behaviour has become an acceptable common event.

If something drastic were to happen to a child, who is going to be answerable for the loss of life or any health issues that may occur.

Do parents even realise how one such act could ruin their child's entire future?

I decided to post this message on this forum so that parents can talk to their kids about the risks involved and that such things have to be reported to elders, either teachers at school or to the parent and it is not accepted behaviour. This should not be taken lightly by the child who is being attacked and children involved in such violent behaviour should be counselled. hope it will help atleast a few people in educating their child on such hazards. thanks

vishnu

Default Re: Protecting our kids from bullying !

vishnu,

Welcome to il.

This particular incident is very common everywhere. these days kids are into sparring games after seeing wwf..and the movies...
I definitely feel the kids have to be educated better. i read somewhere there was a 9 year old kid who brought a gun to school just to show off.

The sad part is some parents if you go and complain that their kid is violent are not going to accept or educate them. there are some who are proud of their kids achievement in hurting others.

I think the best possible solution is to ask our children not to get into these fights..and if they are pushed into fighting, they should leave the place, and even if this is not possible they need to defend themselves.

Parenting is slowly turning into a difficult job these days.
