Default Teaching children your mother tongue

My 9 year old used to speak our mother tongue very fluently but since last couple of years I have observed her getting the english accent while speaking our language. We live in the USA. Is anyone else also in the similar situation? Also how do we teach our kids to really learn our language meaning reading ,writing and speaking just like a child brought up in India?
Please suggest me some ideas. How is everyone dealing with this?

Thanks
Knowmore

Default Re: Teaching children your mother tongue

Hi knowmore,
Talk to her in your own mother tongue and insist on her that she should talk to you in your language, moreover during the weekends teach her through your daughter's age level mother tongue books available in India or you can go over the internet and make her read and write.
We made our children do the same---as a result of this, they read, write and speak, wherever necessary.
But to me they talk in English and to their dad in our language.
Hope it helps!
Wait for some more advice from our fellow ilites!
