| I was just looking into the old woodden boxes that my mom had. All those years I had thought that she had stored old and big utensils that cannot be used on a day to day basis. But I was stunned to see some good old files and folders and old diaries and journals. All with valuable informations that are useful for our generations and for more further generations to come. That gave me an idea. Why not me start writing a journal get it ready to be handed over to my daughter when she gets married (though it is long way to go.....). While browsing through, I was so intrigued by the collections. My great grandmother had written some recipies and so is my grandmother. My grandmother had collected some old and rare songs, which the yesteryear kings and queens of carnatic music have sung. The krithis were not heard of today but when sung gave great pleasure. So I took lots of notes from them and when asked why is that she is storing all these, she told that she is planning to hand over to her grandchildren. Wow a collection of close to 5 generations. On a gist the journals, notes, folders and diaries contained the following: 1. Slokas for all occasions 2. Home decorating tips and tricks 3. Kolams 4. Designs to use in girls frocks 5. Health tips 6. Cooking tips and tricks 7. Rituals to be followed during festivals 8. Traditions to be followed during functions (like Sumangali Prarthanai etc.) 9. Recipies 10. Crafts 11. Stiching 12. Family Tree 13. Phone numbers and addressess of relatives(constantly updated) 14. List of items needed to be purchased everymonth for a family The list goes on and on. Infact I listed out close to 25 such categories. All useful ones. Why dont we all follow that old tradition and make a online journal for our future generation?
