Default extreme tiredness

Problem
_ OKay, I have this wierd issue - I find that I am feeling extremely tired in the mornings.. Unable to get up even after 9 hours of sleep.. And when I do get up, If I dont drink that cup of chai, I can actually sleep back for another couple of hours

Repurcussion
_ I feel bad sometimes because as a wife and lady of the house, I always like to be the first one to be up etc. it has been literally my DREAM to get food ready before dh is up, so he can get up smeeling the wafting aroma of breakfast.. unfortunately still in dreams
I also wonder, if I am like this, how can I ever be active and efficient when kids come

Information _ Also, I am studying side by side with my job. Although I am not a enthu exercise person, I manage to walk overall 2400 steps everyday just to give some exercise..

personally my only health details are, I am late twenties, medium weight, on the edge of hypertension ( by heredity) and hoping to go into ttc after a few months of healthing up..

I have been on mutivit off and on !

Questions _I want to know if I can make any life style/ food changes to increase my level of health - I dont want to sleep away so many hours ! :( My question also is, could this need for sleep and fatigue be any underlying problem ?So, any of you with such experience or with suggestions please help me..

Savitha

Dear Apla,
A year ago I got my thyroid tested - there was no problem.. but if its worth it, I will go to the wellness center in my workplace and get a bloodtest for thyroid levels done sometime soon..

Dear Tashidelek,
I take my morning and evening tea with 1-1.5 spoon sugar each. Sometimes my breakfast is oats/cereal in milk but without sugar. Rarely I eat icecreams, chocolates etc BUT I must add very recently I have started drinking proteinex+milk at night (ttc reasons) ..since proteinex is super bitter, I add some sugar and bournvita.. Could that have any link with the morning tiredness? Would be happy if you throw some light..

regards
Savitha

Hi,
I am 46 and had the same problem 2 years back. I always felt tired even after 10 hours bedtime. Then I found out the reason. I had heavy snoring and I went for a sleep study at the KKR hospital. I am over wieght also. In that study, I was told that my body is not getting enough oxygen due to my breathing tube getting thin (thick neck is creating that problem). I was advised to undergo surgery or lose weight. I opted for weight reduction and met a dietician and lost 10 kg in a year's time. Even now I am trying to lose another 10 kg, to achieve my ideal weight. Now my tiredness, headaches and snoring had reduced. I have to take even longer walks to get my health back.
So please rule out the following- weight, snoring or any such problem. Or are you over working and so getting this problem? Better consult the KKR hospital of the Nitraa centre for sleep related problems.

Seems your sugar intake is ok so that is not a reason. Perhaps you should investigate as Varloo has suggested.

Firstly, there are many people in this world who just cannot wake up in the morning. They can stay very active late into the night but mornings are always sleepy. If you are the kind who can study very well late into the night but can never wake up in the morning earlier than 9am.....then you are as normal as half of us around!!!!

Secondly, discuss this with a doctor to rule out any underlying medical reason -
Anaemia / low blood count
Thyroid (this seems normal to you)
Any vitamin deficiency

Thirdly, be more reasonable in your expectations and limitations - if you are not an early morning person, there you are, accept it as a fact of life. All wives love to think that they should wake up early in the morning and efficiently finish their housework but that is perfectionism. Those who can do it, do it. But what about ladies who cannot do it - then you have to learn to use your weakness to your advantage. I am never an early morning person myself, but I make sure that I prepare my DH's lunchbox the night before itself and keep out all stuff out ready to make his breakfast. When I wake up in the morning, making breakfast is only a 5 minutes affair.

Fourthly, build up on your determination and motivation - a determined lady can move mountains so waking up a bit early in the morning is an easy task . Need not wake too early but start off by waking up one hour earlier than usual motivating yourself to see your husban'd smile when you cook a beautiful breakfast for him.

Some more tricks -

A strong cup of coffee early in the morning as soon as u wake up
Some exercise soon after you wake up can make you feel less sleepy
A cold shower early in the morning - best remedy to shock you into waking up

Hope this helps!!!!

You might have high BP. People having having high bp feel tiredness very often. Because heart needs extra energy to pump up the blood. Even i also have the same. Check up your bp level and if it is high try to normalize.

Also make routine to rise early in the morning. If make it as habit for one month then you can easily overcome the problem.

@ Varloo - hmm.. surprized at snoring and tiredness being related.. I chked with DH... he says I snore once in a long while.. so I dont know..

@ ayurgram - I am hypertensive by heredity.. I am following ayurvedic home remedies and hav reduced salt consumption.. but I'll keep taht in mind and check my BP levels to see any correlation..

@ prettyguns - Hey.. 'a determined lady can move mountains' - that was one motivating sentence .. I will keep that in mind and as per yours as well as all others suggestions, will try to make it into a habit..

thanks all of you, for your wonderful inputs.. I will put efforts to set things in a good routine and get back soon

Savitha
