Default Name change after going to a western country

Hi Ladies

I was just posting something else on the other forums and thought about this one.

As most of you are aware when we come to another country like US, UK the natives here cant pronouce our names properly. Like my name is Sravanthi and I had to cut short it to Sri, so that its easy for people to call me. I miss my name and its like having two identities.

My son who is 5 years old was saying to me yesterday that I have 4 names,
1) Mummy
2) Sravanthi
3) Sri
4) Ammalu (My husband calls me with this name)

Just curious to know if you had to cut short your name, Looking forward to your experiences

Hi all,
Nice thread
I was called deepa in my house.Bhargavi is used only officially. In my house, when some one utters Bhargavi it looks odd.But i liked both names.
My college friends whos are close to me call me as Bhagee .
Since in Indusladies
Deepa,Bhargavi occurs already.I came up with my father's name along with my name which is the rule. But i am proud to put my father's name following my name.

Hi,

Nice thread. Here, in the airport they will pronounce my name like 'Sumti' and

they will pronounce my husband's name as 'Sandar' instead of 'Sundar'.

Generally all my relatives and friends call me 'Sumathi' only. Now a days my

neighbours started calling me "Krishnaamma".
