Question Frequencyof :Going on a vacation

Hello everyone,

I am quite new to IL but have been a regular visitor to its forums.

Just thought to initiate a topic:

Do we realise the importance of taking vacations/breaks from our hectic lives.
How many times we go for a break apart from visiting family.

For myself, I have just started my married life and am planning to go for a weekend break to Singapore.

ILites please share your experiences.

Anshu

Hi Anshu,

Nice topic

I was working for a leading IT concern in India... 5 days of heavy work load and 4 hrs of commutation (daily!!!) would spoil my spirits!!!!

How i used to long for a looonnnnnngggggg weekend!!!!!

After marriage i have settled @ US... though i dont work now... my DH doesnt get vacation... even if he does then surely he would be always busy with his blackberry ofcourse not while driving

We visited Niagara (from canadian side) in the month of may... it was a pleasant trip...

Planning for a long trip in the month of september...

I feel after 5 days of hard work probably we can devote weekend for relaxing and hanging out... and take vacation atleast once in three months....

Cheers,
Ashwini

Tahnk you both of sharing your view,

Melissa,

I can understand your confused state of mind but as you have mentioned you and your hubby really love each other and planning to have an outing soon.

Also that your hubby has already mentioned that he doesn't want you to go for a night stay without him.In my opinion, you should be happy about it as you have already spent 6 long years in your marriage and still your DH doesnt want you to be away from u for a night. I have few friends whose hubbies spend the happiest evening if wives go out for some ladies dinner outings or so.

I stain in HK and even we do have ladies meet frequently but you know what when we meet on weekends or for any outings we plan it with family so that no one should compromise on family front. I can understand your willingness to explore and go on. Why dont u guys plan a day break sometime, when it is convenient for you all.

Melissa,
I would suggest give preference to ur hubby and inner wish. If both of them are in coincidence then go for it. It is quite possible if you overcome your DH's wish and your heart's voice and go with your mind's plan, you might not enjoy the whole trip instead crib your decision and miss your DH.

Still, try to find views from other ILs as well, but I thought to share my view on it.

Hope you enjoy with whatever the plan turns out to be.

Anshu

HI there

vacations really make a bif differenced espacially if both husband & wife are working. i can talk abt my experince so far in a 1.5 yrs of marriage.
both of us carry some bit of the stress fro work to home - its mostly me though. And both of us work with a team back in India (currently located in US) ,so almost every night there are some phone calls from the India team for some clarificatoins/work items etc.. Efectively meaning, a tense/tiring day - and ocntinously for the 5 week-days. Now, the weekend brings a freshness but we value a vacation very much. It takes us away from work/peer pressure/home chores etc.. to a place where we have to only take care of fun and enjoyment!
And i would say, one vacation every quarter would be the best target to achieve.

Hi all,

I have been married for 1.5 yrs now and I am not working in the US (on h4 )

But I must say I have been lucky in going out for vacations As I get bored at home, my hubby works 2 days a week from home (Need I say that he never used to work..hehe)
We go out for vacation every month or max 2 months...we alternate between a short vacation (within 5 hrs drive to someplace) and a long vacation (have to take a flight)
It has been so much fun so far and no, I am not getting bored at all

Now there is a lot of work for my hubby so we arent able to go out as frequently as in the first yr of marriage but I am definitely not complaining at all (We are taking a long vacation to Canada mid-October )

Cheers,
Vids

i am a newlywed - we went to europe for our HM and came back and went away the weekend after - the wedding and europe was fun but hectic but we needed a little us time, and the best thing was our phones did not work up there b/c of all the mountains.. PERFECT
we try to do a little something every month, just going away or doing a little something to look forward to.. like a small party or a get together.. or if anything we try to make a lovely meal together and just hang out.. our schedules are out of wack - i work almost 12 hours and so does he.. and our timings don't mesh well.. AND he has an exam early december, so once that's done, we're going to INDIA.. gosh i am getting excited just thinking about it..

awesome thread..

Dear Anshu
It all depends upon yr work and monetary situation. We use to go every month to nearby places atleast for two days. but now we have our own commitments, our school going daughter, business pressure and old inlaws at home. so we plan to go for a holiday atleast every three months. this help u to rejuvenate yr mental and physical health. But remember if u r planning a short stay dont waste yr time and energy in tidious long journeys.
