Need some information about Madurai

Hi, I am from Chennai. I visited Madurai last weekend but don't have much idea about this town. I came there to visit the doctor Prem Vel (Dhanvanthri Nilayam). I can say that their medicines do miracles. My husband has spine problem so we visited madurai. I planned to stay in a lodge in town hall , i enquired almost 10 lodges, but nobody was ready to give the rooms, don't know the exact reasons. That was the first inconvenience. I am a muslim wearing a burkha( is this the reason).Can anybody tell me why they hesitated to give the rooms?.

I just visited near by shops and enjoyed hot tirunelveli halwa from lala sweets and jigarthanda from road side, lunch from meenakshi bhavan and madurai malli. I will be visiting MAdurai next month too, i will be free from morning 10:30am to 8 Pm. Please let me know the places to visit and foods to enjoy there.
As i told, i am a muslim so don't have much interest in visiting temples.

Evening i was searching for roadside idli shops at 7:30pm, but couldn't find even a single one in town hall road as well as near railway station. Can you madurai people ,please let me know the places to visit in the mean time, good food to have, famous foods in maduai like vadas, coffee, dinner etc.. and shopping places. It will be very useful for me when i go there for the next time. Thanks in Advance.

You can visit Tirumalai Nayakkar Mahal,Pudu Mandapam and on.

Madurai is lovely place for shopping.You can go around the streets of Meenakshi Amman temple and do shopping for textiles,jewels and other stuff.
