some shopping info

I tried to fit this in an existing thread, but nothing suited. So here goes a new thread. I need lots of info on Madurai.

1) I wish to buy a kuthuvilakku with Ganapathy on top. I see this in a MAdurai based restaurant in my city. They gave me the contact of the factory that makes this, but the number does not go through. I really need to get one made and take it with me. Husband is Ganapathy devotee.

2) I need to make a kavacham/angi/metal cover for Naagar vigraham. The vigraham is in stone, I need an aimpon kavacham/angi. The priest says that this is available only in Madurai, and not even Nagercoil which is near my city.

3) I wish to buy elegant Chettinad sarees. Need a good shop. Also pretty cotton-silk sarees.

If u r not bother abt distance, just make a visit to Kumbakonam for all yr aimpon, silver, brass and bronze needs. Or visit Poompuhar Chennai.

Regarding the lamp and the kavacham, me too agree with the uma. kumbakonam is the best bet. you can even choose and get it customised i think...

regarding chettinad sarees in madurai not sure...

Thanks Uma and Shaan for some good suggestions.However, this time I have to stay put in Madurai and cannot go to Kumbakonam. So am restricted to checking options only there. Will be glad to know about the Chettinad sarees shop. I have one name, but the sarees there are garish. Need a shop with elegant Chettinad sarees. Thanks again.
