Request info about sculpture in Madurai Temple

Hi all Maduraiites,

In the 1000 Pillared hall of the Minakshi temple there is a sculpture ( pillar carving) in the central corridor which portrays a bearded man's head on a beautiful female body. I'd like to know who this mythological person is and what story is attached to him/her.

I visit templenet regularly and yes they do have a page on the madurai temple, but unfortunately, no details about individual sculptures except those in the kambathadi mandapam.
